Sorry, one more question! DD also said they had another test today but there were only 2 questions - one was that they were shown a picture and they had to write what was in the picture. The other was having to write the missing words from a paragraph. Does this sound like they didn't finish their literacy paper the other day and these were the last 2 questions, or do they have to do the papers in one go? The weird thing is, she said the teacher told her it was a maths test!

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 19/05/2010 16:11

Have I got this right?

Nocturnal animals is level 2, windmills is level 3?

Any ideas about maths?

trendymama · 19/05/2010 16:11

That was the spelling papers one is 10 pictures and one is narration and filling the gaps. Has your D done her short writing task? What did she do?

trendymama · 19/05/2010 16:12

Nocturnal is the long writing, level 3 reading is windmills

Bodenbabe · 19/05/2010 17:19

Oh I didn't realise there was a spelling paper - so are there 4 papers (literacy, maths, spelling, writing)? Or are spelling & reading judt separate partd of Literacy? Not that it matters, I'm just curious I don't think she's done any writing tasks - I will ask about nocturnal animals, what was the short writing task (or do they choose what to do?)

Bodenbabe · 19/05/2010 17:25

Just asked her and no, she hasn't done anything about nocturnal animals...

mrz · 19/05/2010 17:52

Bodenbabe schools can pick from the 2007 and the 2009 tests - nocturnal animals (night time) is the 2009 long writing the 2007 is the magic pebble

Children have a long and short writing task a spelling test, a reading comprehension test and a mathstest

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty no nocturnal animals is the long writing task (level depends on what the child produces on the day)

Some schools ask all the children to sit the level 2 reading comprehension and then ask those who do really well to sit the level 3. Some schools preselect the children who they want to sit the level 3 test only. ( and some do both!) However, as the VAST majority of teachers know the level that a child is working at BEFORE they sit a test, it does seem a little pointless in making anyone sit two!

Feenie · 19/05/2010 20:34

Agree with primarymum - children should only sit one test for each subject. It quite clearly states in the guidelines that there is no need for children to do a level 2 and a level 3 test - teachers should have a secure enough knowledge of where the children are at to decide which is suitable, and most do.

WSussexmum · 08/06/2010 16:58

does anyone know if schools should be letting the children who do not complete their tests finish them the next day... they are doing that at my school and it doesn't feel quite right!!

primarymum · 08/06/2010 20:28

There is no set time limit on the KS1 tests, in theory the children could take as long as they like! Some children run out of steam very quickly and appreciate the break before tackling the end part of the paper-I used to do the reading comprehension in two parts as it is quite long ( no choice now I teach yr 6!) With some children, it wouldn't matter how long you gave them, it wouldn't really change the result, but some children just need a little longer! I asked mine whether they wanted to do some more, most were quite happy to get to the end of the paper, those that didn't want to weren't pushed, after all, I know what level they are before they sit the test!

imie · 04/05/2012 11:19

What about last year 2010, what was the long and short writing task for year 2 ks1 please?

mrz · 04/05/2012 17:05

There haven't been any new tests since 2009

imie · 09/05/2012 11:21

Thank you, i'm confused about the Monkey crossing the crocodile infested river, is that the fiction reading comprehension for 2009?
the 2007 fiction was the 'Moving House' one right?
Many thanks.

mrz · 13/05/2012 18:11

mrz · 13/05/2012 18:11
