Ibstock Place School

We are considering Ibstock Place school for our children and would be interested in hearing from anyone with any direct experience or views on the school. Our other options are Surbiton (although not sure about selective entry at such a young age) or local state primary the Russell School. I would be really grateful to hear any views as I am getting more confused by the minute!

I too would not turn down a place at the Russell, it's up there with the best state primary in the country.

Have heard mixed things about Ibstock, some people with dcs there love it, others found it chaotic and a bit blingy. good luck with whatever you decide.

We looked at Ibstock. Personally, I didn't love it at all...lovely facilities, but when we were shown around we met no children, did not meet the Head (though she gave a speech in a crowded hall at the end of the tour) and were shocked by the school's philosophy on dealing with children with learning or other difficulties by 'asking them to move to a different school, as we have no resources for them here'.

I went to a Froebelian college, have family connections with the place, and expected to really like it: but couldn't believe how much the ethos of the place had changed over the past few years.

That said, we have friends with LOs there who seem happy, other friends with older LOs who have mixed feelings (they loved the infants and senior but not junior schools), so it is probably horses for courses. Just not my cup of tea at all.

I too would go for the Russell

I have a friend who has had her oldest there until 7 years of age, but moving him now.

The stories she can tell about parents infidelity with eachother, marriage breakups and swinging pool parties, is amazing!

londonartemis · 13/05/2009 21:43

A good friend of mine sends her son there. He is happy, but a bright and very competitive boy. My friend tells me the school pushes the academic side more than it used to, so I don't think children who might need extra help here and there (and to be honest, who knows what their children will need until they're well into primary school education) will find the school that accommodating. My friend does not send her daughter there, who would need extra help.
The parents are on the whole pretty rich - lots of second homes and foreign holidays. Don't know about the wife swapping parties!

Heathcliffscathy · 13/05/2009 21:45

elibean i couldn't agree more with it having lost completely it's frobelian ethos.

i have grave grave misgivings about the (clearly career) head, who doesn't seem to like children at all.

Swinging pool parties! OMG Will look at my neighbours with dcs there in a new light. No wonder they speak so highly of it

Elibean · 14/05/2009 19:54

to the pool parties

Sophable, me too

I would recommend the Russell School, very warm, caring and diverse with excellent devoted teachers.

Hi there, we are currently overseas and looking to move back to London. We have been offered a place at Ibstock Primary for my daughter who will go into year 4. For commuting et we were considering Richmond to live in but I wondered how that will work for local playdates etc. DOes anyone know where the kids all come from? Are many from the Richmond area?

MLP · 22/07/2013 11:41

Don't know the stats but there are definitely Richmond families with kids at the school - it's a fairly easy shit across the park. We have friends who lived on Richmond Hill and sent their three kids there

mrsshackleton · 22/07/2013 15:45

A fairly easy WHAT across the park Grin

Sorry..

MLP · 23/07/2013 10:36

I am so sorry!!! No idea how that happened. Trip. Trip. Trip.

So it's only wife swapping, never husband swapping!
