DS is starting school full time in Sept

His school uniform consists of grey trousers, burgundy school jumper and white polo shirts and I guess I will also need a PE kit (blue T shirt & burgundy shorts)

How many items of each do I get?

Am totally clueless

I have bought 5 white polo shirts already (on special offer)

Also is it worth buying extras on uniform list like book bags etc, or is this a waste of money??

TIA

One tip is to add a key ring to the book bag so it is easily identified when in the book bag box with 29 other identical book bags.

Also check if they need plymsols in the first term. Our school doesn't do outside PE with Recpetion till the summer term, so they don't need them till then.

The key ring is a great tip on book bags, I had one from Ebay for DS for his book bag and p.e bag with his name on for about 99p - still used them in year 1 and has never lost a bag or taken the wrong one home.

Am liking the key ring tip too

definately going to do that...

I bought 3 pairs of grey trousers from M&S today. I got age 4 which looks about 2/3 inches too big for him ATM which will be perfect I think come Sept.

Age 5 looked enormous and while age 3 would fit now...it won't in the summer..

dizzyday if you have a DD to buy for pleeeeease make sure she can actually put on pinafore dresses.

The girls in FS2 can really struggle on PE days.

Likewise tights.
Worth seeking out skirts with adjustable waists (M&S good).

I am just going to write DS's name on book bag and put key ring on that he chooses (ie not with his name on)

But will make it easier to spot from a big pile of book bags iyswim.

I was obviously a bit mean with uniform for my dss. When in reception they had 2 pairs of trousers, 2 sweatshirts and 3 shirts. Dd1 now has the same - 2 pinafores etc..

I found they needed more change of uniform as they got older - ds1 now in yr6 needs clean shirt every day due to armpits! Also, needs a spare pe kit so can wash one whilst other at school for same reason.

Uniform doesn't have to be spotless - they are children!

ds has 2 pairs trousers, 2 sweatshirts and 5 polo shirts. Then there was school socks, gym kit, gym bag, school bag, pencil case, school bag, lunch box, water bottle, school shoes and shorts for sunny days.

Ds loved choosing it all so we made it last all summer!

Yes our keyring is just one we bought from a day out somewhere. Doesn't have his name on it. Just so that it is distinctive in the box. He has since added a Power Ranger one to his book bag.

I used a CD marker pen for my DC's clothes in September and not washed out yet. You have to write really small though! You can get plimsolls in places like Shoe Express - only £1-2 depending on the size

My tip is to order any school branded things in good time or you will be worrying about it all through August (if you miss this term).

I'd get 3 jumpers, 3 trousers, 1 PE kit.

Nice to have the book bag, otherwise you will have to get some other kind of bag anyway, and it will be easier for teacher to put books in if she knows what to look for.

Burgundy shouldn't show the marker pen stains too badly!

cece - DS has told me he wants a spiderman one!!

on the ordering school branded stuff - going to get some soon then maybe look at the second hand stuff on sale during the summer fete too

will see how old it looks etc...

Even if i see a decent school jumper for age 6 I can keep it..

Am a hoarder like that!!

Should see my loft

My two (Y1 and nursery) are so mucky that they need a clean set of clothes every day, and for each child I have:

5 white polo necks
3 sweatshirts
3 trousers/skirts
1 set of PE kit (this comes home every half term and gets washed then).

For the uniform, I do a coloured wash on Tuesday night (thus washing sets of uniform 1 and 2), and that is enough to have clean sweatshirts and trousers/skirt every day of the week. I do another coloured wash on Friday night to get all the uniform again, plus a white wash over the weekend for the polo shirts. Have to be regimented about it as I work full time!

dd1 starts in sept I have bought

6 polo shirts (came in packs of 3 and I wanted 5!)

2 pinafore dresses

2 skirts

1 trousers (she doesnt want these ut they were £3.50 in M&S and may come in useful if it snows!!)

1 school logo cardigan, 1 plain red cardigan

1 white pe shirt, 1 pair black cycling shorts and 1 pair of jogging bottoms (need to get leotard for yr 1!)

Basically clean top and dress/skirt every day and am hoping cardigan will last 2 or 3 days. Nearer next summer I'll get summer dresses. I need to buy from school her coat, book bag, pe bag and hat (thankfully my parents/pil contributing to the bits I need from school)
