Friend (who works and hence does not do school run) called to ask today if they were doing SATS this week in ds' class. Friend's ds is in the same class. She asked me to check with the teacher and told me about various practice websites. I haven't done anything extra with ds, should I be?

What benefit would it be to the child to be coached specifically for y2 SATs? They reassess the children start of y3 anyway (in most schools).

No, not done anything at all. No intention of doing anything. School have done no prp either.

School calendar has SATS down for next week, but I know that DS1 has done a couple of tests already this week. Perhaps this is a cunning plan to foil the pushy parents (not that I know any lol).

Tis extremely low-key at his school, which incidently has outstanding ofsted etc.

It's a bit late now! I don't think you should start earlier either-hopefully the school are low key.

No - no preparation, beyond vaguely trying to make sure she has a reasonable amount of sleep, followed by a reasonable amount of breakfast!

She tells me they did some "special" work this week, and the tables were rearranged so they couldn't copy each other. But she also tells me that she missed maths today, cos she was too busy painting, so they are obviously still in reasonably laid back mode .

There's no test window for Y2 SATS anymore - ongoing teacher assessment is reported, not the judgements from 1 day. Children should not know that they're being tested, (unfortunately my child knows that he is!)
All I can say is, when your child reaches the grand old age of 18, will what level he /she achieved at 6 or 7 years old make a haporth of difference? One would hope not. What are we doing to our children? Really, it beggars belief.
