Any tips for helping settle in at a new school?

DD who's 8 starts at a new school on Tuesday, I think we're both very nervous. We're still living in the same village so I will make an effort to have friends from old school over for tea, etc.

We've been shopping today for new uniform, and got all new hairclips, bobbles, socks, pe bag, etc. So trying to make it a bit exciting in that respect.

Anything else I can do or any good advice I can give her to help?

The first day anywhere is nervewracking, I would say, have a chat tomorrow about it, ask her what she is excited about re her new school, and if she is worried about anything. Address the worries if she does have any, and remind her that she will still get to see her old friends. Perhaps see if one of her friends from her old school can come round to tea on Wednesday perhaps, so that she knows she has that to look forward to?

Thanks, we've organised friends round twice this week so hopefully that will help.

How did she get on stripeyknickers? it was today your daughter started wasn't it?

It was. She seems to have really enjoyed it, has made some friends and can't stop talking about it so thats a good sign. Thansk for asking, its been a nerve racking week but I think we've made the right decision.

I am so pleased! It sounds like a very smooth and happy start to the new school, so now you can relax too
