Anyone actually moved a DC from one school to another- then back again?!

Am curious! I mean, I know we as parents may set ourselves that safety net if we move for reasons other than a total relocation- say if we feel our DC's needs aren't being fully met at school A but then discover that school B does it even worse and that we were better off at A!

Has anyone actually done it? And after what period? Or found that school A is now full?!

Fwiw I actually want to make a clean break, largely for DS1's sake- Y5 (getting to know DCs who will go to secondary with him) but IF I could leave DS2 (Y3) where he is for another 2 years I would- but not with an 8 mile round trip to the school to contend with! As it is I may have to do that for a while as there isn't a place for DS2 at the new school yet.

I have another post about this you may have read!

A mum at our school did that, having to return to school A as the child really didn't get on at school B.
Unfortunately she had really complained to our head about how bad the school/teachers/ etc were and then had to really grovel and apologise to get back in! Child returned after only a few months and in theory school A was full, as a new child had started, but they did allow him to return after getting governors involved.
So I would suggest that if you are thinking about it be careful what you say your reasons for leaving are incase you need to return!

I don't have personal experience of this but know of several children at our school who have left for one reason or another and then returned either within a few months or in the following academic year. The school isn't usually oversubscribed though so the full school issue probably doesn't apply here.

I am as confident as I can be that the 'new' school will be just fine for both DS1 and 2. We're really keen for DS1 to go but it isn't yet so critical for DS2, being in Y3. However, come what may he should move at least a year before secondary, as per DS1. Thing is, in terms of OFSTED and 'feel', the 2 schools are very similar!

I do like the existing one in that a) it IS a known quantity and has served us well, and b) it's a Juniors thus the 'growing up' bit is emphasised what with an actual new school, head master, shirt and tie uniform, more formality. This won't be an issue with DS1, Y5 going into 6 as he's sufficiently past that infant/junior divide it won't affect him but I do wonder if DS2 might find it a tiny bit 'dumbed down' as there IS the influence of 4 year olds within the school, iykwim!

I smiled at cuppatea's remarks! No, I won't be bad-mouthing anyone at the present school! The headmaster himself has 2 x DDs in another school local to where we'll be moving as he, too, favours the feeder secondary that WE'VE selected! So he can't think it's a daft move. And I will be writing a letter of praise to the school when we finally pull the DSs out because I think they deserve it!

FInally, there was a DD who came into DS1's Y1 half way through, from another local primary who had been moved by an disconsolate mother. DD lasted a year or so with us, THEN was moved to a THIRD primary locally as she wasn't happy with our school... Only one more to go! - THEN she might realise the problem lies with either her DD OR her own attitude! lol.
