Does anyone have experience of St Bedes prep school? (or the senior school for that matter!)

Hi, we are very seriously considering sending our ds1 (10) to St Bedes and wondered if anyone had any experience/information about it?

He is dyspraxic, probably also has aspergers, but is very bright. If we sent him there it would mean he would have to travel a long way (from Brighton) so it isn't ideal, but if it is a fantastic school we will consider it.

also info on the senior school would be appreciated too!

Thanks

sorry mabs didn't see this. Will text before you go on hols. I know you don't have a very high opinion of it, but for ds it might be what he needs (we do have a place at the Other school I talked to you about though too...)

polly did you get my freinds email?

MABS · 28/03/2009 22:38

sweetie, i really liked it, but it just wasn't right for dd. Very different schools, that and the 'other'. so pleased you have some choices.

Have friend with boy in Year 9 - he is really struggling to fit in as he is one of only a couple of uk boys in his dorm at present. Also v
he is very sporty boy and large overseas contingent makes that difficult apparently. Only going on what friend has said though

SlartyBartFast · 28/03/2009 22:49

how about newlands in seaford for dyspraxia?

CowsGoMoo · 29/03/2009 00:57

My sons prep school play matches against the prep school and from what I've seen of it on match days its a hugely sporty school with everyone taking part.

I have a friend with a ds in yr 10 in the senior dept in Upper Dicker who absolutely hates the school and has a place at a new school for yr11. Not academic enough for her ds who is quite bright, hugely sporty again (doesn't quite agree with SalVolatile description!) He is a day pupil and gets bussed in and finds the hours that adds onto the school day makes it unreasonable and hard, also school on Saturdays is very unpopular

Certainly the senior school is not on my list for when my ds leaves his prep

Pollyanna · 29/03/2009 21:34

we went to see Newlands, but wasn't sure about it. It seemed very empty and I heard the parents are worried about it going bust again.

Our ds's ed psych really raves about St Bede's for him, so we are going to see it, but I have heard the downsides too (I must admit I would prefer a more academic school for ds).

2shoes yes, I have got the email - only just checked as I haven't been around this weekend until now. I will respond!

The problem with the other school (and any other school really) is that if there are any incidents ds will be thrown out (he loses his temper very easily at the moment), and I'm not sure he (or I) can take the stress of waiting for him to be thrown out, or looking for another school.

Have any of you got experience with St Aubyn's in Rottingdean?

SlartyBartFast · 29/03/2009 22:21

not dyspraxia as such.
