Starting a new school - mix-up on term dates

Ds2 (in Year 1) will be starting a new school after Easter, although his brother will be remaining at the existing one. When getting the prospectus for the new school it included term dates which more or less matched his existing school for 09/10. Having now signed the acceptance letter I've received a start date of Thursday 16 April, which is earlier than ds1's school (Tues 21). We're currently going to Devon that week and are not due back until Friday. My options seem to be to either come back from Devon early so that he starts on Thursday, or stay and send him in on the Monday. Starting a new school with a short week could be an advantage as I assume that he will be tired as everything is new. But given that his brother will still be on holiday it may be more distressing for him.
Any views?

I would come back early and give him the best possible chance of settling in to his new school. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I'd come back early to get him in for the first day of term. They'll both have to get used to having slightly different term dates if they're in different schools - it'll balance up and hopefully they can each get a chance to do things with you while the other is in school.

yup -would come back early to get him off to a good start. Perhaps just being you and him in the house will make those few days more special for him anyway?

Definetely come back early.

Agree, better to come back early. Good luck!

I was hoping that you would all say "no, you have to enjoy your holiday", as we've already paid for it (and I'm fairly sure that our insurance won't cover us!). But I suspect that you are all very sensible.

I think you should come back early and I would do the same if it was my holiday.
