HELLO ALL

I work as a 1-1 support assistant. I support a child who has emotional/behavioural issues. One minuet he can be realy fine the next he can flip out. Saddly he is only in reception. Evry single report from CAMHS to the EDpsyc say this child is making progress but needs CONSTANT supervition.

Because of the way SEN is funded in the county I work for the childs imformation must go to an Aditional Learning Needs Panal and they decide how many hours the child gets.

It had gone from 15 to 20 hours now THIS IS THE BIT THAT HAS MADE ME CROSS now they suggest 10 hours for this child !!!!

This comes into effect after easter

As of yet the parent doesnt know when she does she will go NUTS

What can I do ??

The school's head although is trying doesnt seem to be doing a fat lot.

HELP PLEASE ASPAP

This chid is coming on in leaps and bounds my fear is that he will go backwards when lots of his support is removed, this undermines my HARD work

ASPAP?

Trip Trap?

cornsilk · 11/03/2009 20:54

What has the SENCO said?

Coldtits · 11/03/2009 20:56

wtf are you on about trip Trap? why would this be a troll?

IMHO the best thing you cn do is advise the parent of this decision, stressing how he NEEDS one to one and that she can appeal.

cornsilk · 11/03/2009 20:57

Agree with coldtits. Get the parent to put pressure on the LEA. Does the child have a statement? Is the support time on there?

ingles2 · 11/03/2009 20:57

Hannah leave it out....
I would advise the parent/carer immediately. Do you have contacts you can give her to appeal etc?

thecloudhopper · 11/03/2009 21:40

Well the school would appeal, the system in the county I work is for a want of a better word CRAP. Yes I know the parent needs to be informed but it is not place to inform her.

The SENCO is also CRAP but says she will write to the LEA ect.

No the child is not statemented and at the moment statments are not the in thing apparently.

The thing I find frustrating is people who have never ment the child who do not know what the child is like makes the dections.

PS Thanks for the help so far more help is needed.

PPS I will keep you informed.

I have to ask why you've started so many threads tonight?
Why the funny/fancy foundation phase one? And I take it you mean foundation stage.

myredcardigan · 11/03/2009 21:46

Ok, I've worked as a Senco and I've never come across a situation where a child funded for 20h has just had that funding dropped to 10h whithout even a joint review or explanation. 20h is a lot of funding IMO so for an LEA to do that they must be fairly convinced that said child has serious difficulties. So it seems strange that it would just be pulled.

Lilyloo · 11/03/2009 21:50

How can the child not have a statement but have funded hours ??

kid · 11/03/2009 21:55

For a child to be allocated hours, I thought they needed a statement?
I was an LSA for a child with a statement. They were allocated 29 hours in Year 1 and currently still have those 20 hours in Year 5.

thecloudhopper · 11/03/2009 22:04

redcardigan.. erm no i meen foundation phase wales you see has a different system. I told my local LEA has serious weeknesses especcialy when it comes to SEN.

I have no idea how to help sorry

Only to say that as a TA I am surprised that your spelling is so poor! If you worked with my very pedantic 7yo he would continually point them out!!

I hope you get the problem sorted out soon

thecloudhopper · 11/03/2009 22:09

The way it works in my LEA is that children with real physical conditions where the child needs help for the forseeable future for example Cerebral Palsy and Downs would get a statment and set hours usualy 25 or 32.5. this lasts for usually 2 years before review, However more general cases for example children with emotional/behvioural problems and mild SEN will go to the panel and they decide the amount of hours. that can range from 5 to 32.5.

myredcardigan · 11/03/2009 22:11

Ah,yes, sorry. It was your fancy caligraphy that threw me!

Do you have a system of funding hours without a statement in Wales? Where is it set down on paper? Is it a legal entitlement?

thecloudhopper · 11/03/2009 22:12

ERM spelling is so poor as I am dyslexic!! That is why I carry a dictionary around with me so it is close to hand. Also this does not have spell check which I use for work.

OP posts:
cornsilk · 11/03/2009 22:12

MRC- As I understand it the child's hours were first dropped to 15 hours and have been dropped to 10 at the last review. (Is that correct op?)So the child hasn't actually gone from 10 to 20 hours support, but from 15 to 20.(I think.)

thecloudhopper · 11/03/2009 22:13

** I carry a dictionary round in school

OP posts:
myredcardigan · 11/03/2009 22:14

A child with CP was the only child I have ever come across in mainstream with a statement for full hours. 15 is much more common, occasionally 20 if LT poses a problem. Maybe your LEA isn't so bad.

thecloudhopper · 11/03/2009 22:14

No he started on 15 hours then went up to 20 now they say 10 is enough.

OP posts:
cornsilk · 11/03/2009 22:16

Oh okay - I get you now. How long has he had the 20 hours for?

thecloudhopper · 11/03/2009 22:17

recardigan i the authoroty I work for genrally they mainstream children.

OP posts:
thecloudhopper · 11/03/2009 22:18

the system is you get the parework together, this includes Ed psyc reports ect. This is then sent to a review pannal of about 8 thjey read through each case and decide from there.

Yurtgirl · 11/03/2009 22:19
