Would you take your dcs out of school (with permission) for this?

Firstly I have never taken the dcs out of school for a holiday, they have had the odd day over the years when we have had to go to a family wedding, etc abroad but not in recent years.

My brother lives abroad and is coming to the UK soon. He has not been back since he left many years ago and the younger dcs have never met him and I have never met his dw/dcs.

I am toying with the idea of taking the dcs out of school the day they arrive and going to the airport to meet them. They will be staying with us overnight and then going on to visit family elsewhere. We will see them again over the Easter holidays for a week or so so obv it's not our only chance to spend time with them....

My dcs are very excited about meeting their cousins (as am I!) but then again they may be quite jet-lagged and not up to playing etc...

Any views?

I probably wouldn't because it may be overwhelming for the other kids, and airports are hectic busy places.

was going to say they might not be up for family reumion due to jet lag lol, but you already thought of that

i might not, to be honest, sorry! the dcs will probably just stand behind their respective parents legs and ignore each other anyway until they get to know each other a bit better. there'll be bags to carry and tired kids, and then all back in the car again...

save the kids for the easter hols and meet them yourself?

What about not going to the airport but staying at home for the day to meet them all?

It's not really feasible to go to the airport by myself due to timings - clashes with school run.

My brother & family were planning to get to ours by public transport but I thought it might help them if I took their bags and whoever could fit in the car...

I'd be tempted but as you've realised, jet lag probably means they won't be on top form anyway.

Would be nice to collect your brother from the airport but you could always ask school if you could pick your kids up early. Or ask another parent to bring your lot back.

How exciting, btw, hope you have a fabulous week catching up with your brother and his family.

My two get on famously with their cousins but live an 8hr drive away from them, so don't seem them that often, it does take a day or two for them to get warmed up iykwim.

I know you are excited but I think I would be inclined to wait..
