Help Newton Prep Nursery & Prep - Any Alternatives?

Does anyone have any ideas - we are new to the SW London area & are still waiting to buy a property (currently renting). So can only look at private schools for my DS who's 3 as we are not living in the catchment area where we plan to be! He has done the Newton assesment but I have no idea if he is what they are looking for, so whilst we are waiting for the results I would like to look at some comparisons. He would start nursery this Sept or Reception in 2010 (if I can't find a nursery school/pre-school place) - I prefer mixed schools but will look at all boys. So many non selective schools ask you to register v early & we have missed that so anywhere with assesments would prob be best. Any help greatly appreciated!

www.goodschoolsguide.co.uk/ is useful

you can still apply for state nursery from rented

We aren't renting in the area where we will we buying a house so state schools are no go. I have the Good Schools Guide but wanted some idea of peoples experiences or expert knowledge - SW London is awash with options so I thought there would be loads of opinions out there! We may be able to move into the catchment area of Wimbledon Chase school but I would also like some other ideas!

The area is starved of good schools, I have, like you arrived too late to register for Thomases, the rest of the good schools are across the river. My Ds went to nursery to Blundells and was very happy there, I highly recommend it. He then went to one of the good state schools in Chelsea and now has won a 7+ scolarship at Newton. I think that by the age of six, you will have a better idea of ds academic abilities I have not explored Wimbledon as it is too far for us.

Friends in Battersea travel up to Chelsea for school

Sorry am confused - are you planning to live in Wimbledon and send your child to prep or are you planning on sending to prep where you are now?

Squirrels in Wimbledon, Eton House The Manor in Clapham. Both excellent, but might be tough to get them in at this stage.

If you haven't bought a place yet why not buy nice and close to a good state school like Honeywell or Belleville?

Thanks so much for all your help - my situation is a bit confusing! We are renting a house in Surbiton (but don't want to stay here) whilst we try & sell our flat in North London! Happy to move anywhere (we can afford) that has the right school for DS & would prefer to be closer into London. Have just received offer of a place for Newton Prep Nursery for Sept 09 so now all we have to do is find the downpayment & somewhere to live not far from Battersea Dogs Home!!!! Financial situation not great currently so fingers crossed! Akkiko I'm glad it all worked out for you & hope your DS will love Newton. EldonAve - friends have kids at both Honneywell & Belleville so that is a possible but as we have not moved yet I get v worried as there are no guarantees of a place as the schools are so popular!
