I have a consent form to sign and return to school for my dd in reception for health screening. The consent is ongoing until she is 18 yrs old and i don't want to sign it but if i don't give my consent will it cause problems?
I don't want to sign it because i am a capable parent able to bring up my dd in a healthy way.
Any thoughts?

Dd had it done (still waiting for ds)

It was the equivalent of another developmental check the same as the HV did when they were babies/toddlers. It picked up a hearing problem with dd. Nothing seriosu just whwnever sha has a cold her hearing goes.

The fact I needed glasses was picked up at school.

Also we were invited to be there in the same way as you are with the HV baby checks. Dd goes to an independent school, it was a nurser form the schools nurse service who went into school and did the check in a private room (we had appointment times).

I am aware of what is involved in these checks but i suppose this type of thing makes me feel powerless if that makes any sense.
I know we don't live in an ideal world but i like to make my own decisions for my family and myself.

Did you not take your child to the baby and toddler checks with the health visitor then. You would have signed a similar piece of paper when they were born consenting to them.

Our school nurse has just been in doing these checks on the YrR children. A fair few parents have not returned consent forms and the nurse has said they have to return them by x date. If they don't the screenings are going ahead anyway, unless a parent writes a note specifically stating that they wish to opt out of the screening process. So, what I'm saying is is that regardless of whether or not you consent, if you do not specifically say 'no', it could happen anyway.

The forms are like that where I live too, you have to opt out rather than opting in for screening.
