So dd has a big maths test nest week and she has to revise. We only know that it'll mainly be these subjects :

Long Multiplication
Long Division-
Tables (cost of Ikg apples, how much is 2,5Kg sort of thing)
changing scale large to small etc

Any tips on the best ways to get her to practise? Should I just write out sums for her to do? We did a load yesterday but I didn't think she was really into it and certainly not able to concentrate as if it was revision. She's young really to revise by herself.

I would write out some questions for her to do (eg long mult) and would let her check her answer on a calculator to see how she has got on maybe as a treat. Or she can make the numbers up herself by rolling a dice (try and get a dice with more than six faces, ignore digits over 9 though) and can then multiply them. Or she can try to beat her previous time maybe...

Practical activities could help:

eg for putting units in order of size you could write various lengths on little pieces of card and get her to put them in order. Perhaps put them on stickers and attach stickers to soft toys. Repeat for weight and capacity. eg 2.5cm, 25m, 2.05m, 250mm etc. Start with smallest to biggest then reverse.

Do have a look at the KS2 maths section on the BBC website as there are lots of activities there.

We've just found the sheet of practise examples from the teacher. She has to do this sort of thing: 126 l of applejuice is filled into 30ml bottles. She has to find out what teh question could be and then of course the answer.

Ther ewill be 3 or 4 of this type of question in the test. This is year 4 maths (but in Germany ) The KS2 website is good , I'll have a look at it with her later if she ever manages to get this question done, as she's given up on it and gone on to the next one.

Have to say I'm shuddering at these questions. Won't be long til I have no clue of the answers!!

There are some practice papers and exercises on www.parentsintouch.co.uk, which was a site recommended by someone else on this site a while ago - it's been a great help for things like fun holiday papers etc. The BBC site is also good.
