...I have no idea what the teacher wants, except for he needs 10 to use in sentences.

I am assuming he means descriptive words and he has suggested these

Despicable
spectacular
colossal
hideous
extremely
massive
gorgeous
immaculate
treme ndous

Do you think these are on the right lines? I hope he doesn't have to know how to spell them too

Yep - basically any words that "push" his vocab beyond the normal limits. They don't have to be words that mean "wow".

So:

"Agonisingly, the old man made his way slowly up the mountain" could be a good one, as most 8 year olds might not naturally think about the word "agonisingly".

Ditto:

"Beyond the hills, a spectacular sunset was spreading red against the sky."

It's just about getting them to push the boundaries a bit and go beyond the really obvious. His suggestions are all great.

brilliant, thanks all, at least we are on the right lines. I googled and there were suggestions of ''ugly'' ''fierce'' ''prickly''.

None of which seemed Wow-y to me. It doesn't help that in my day, we didn't have Wow words...

We are told as teachers that it simply means a word that is challenging and ambitious for that particular child. so at a basic level it might just be saying huge instead of big.
