Good morning everyone! I imagine some of you are enjoying the snow, my girls have the day off as we have so much snow here. anyway, going off topic there, sorry!

I wondered what other Mum's opnions are on student teachers in their child's class?

Do you find the student is sometimes better than the class teacher? Do you mind them teaching your kids?

My daughter in reception has a fantastic student teacher teaching her class till easter which i am happy about but are all schools as lucky with their students?

Wondered what your opinion is on having students in your children's class?

As a teacher myself, I would thoroughly support any trainee teacher teaching my children, as I know that the mentoring system is rigorous. Trainee teachers can bring in fresh ideas and approaches to learning.

Totally agree with ChipButty.
They keep a very close eye on trainees so, if you got an iffy one, there would be systems in place to rectify it PDQ.

Glad you are so pleased with the one your DD has

God yes. And they do really good lessons a lot of the time. At least they do in secondary schools. All singing and dancing - 'cos they have the time to plan them

I'm a teacher and I started late, so if I hadn't had the time in the classroom as a trainee I would have been totally thrown, as it's nothing like it was at my school (from what I can remember, anyway )

Student teachers tend to be placed with the "good" teachers anyway, as it is a lot of work to support a student teacher. Some people think that it frees the normal teacher up to drink lots of coffee but that's really not the case anymore! I love having students in school but it is hard work as you have to do several observations a week, support their lesson planning, evaluate with them, see their tutors, go to the uni's planning/evaluation/mentor training sessions etc.

They have to be in class anyway-the only way to learn. I should think it is a good thing as they will have to live, breathe and sleep teaching while they are there!! They may well have their own class in September.
