How much will the credit crunch affect state school admissions this year?

Just wondering if we are less likely to get into our nearest state school in London

"State primaries short of places as parents shun private education"

Lambeth has had an appalling record in providing school places for many years. I think the interpretation that this is due to the credit crunch is something of a leap of logic by Ms Barney. Even the council dont seem to actually be saying this is the cause....

Oh I wasn't sure who the Ms Barney was on this thread and was just about to quote Lambeth at those on here.

Lambeth's 'issues' with school places are mainly due to immigration surely. They say that in the article.

Local school normally has 23 sibs and 7 non-sibling places rumour this year is that the ratio is reversed.

Anecdotal (friends) is that they will be holding onto their state primary school place until September but will go private if they still have work. Remember sooooo many people leave London at this stage.

daysoftheweek - Sept really? I though people would switch at Easter otherwise they have to pay more fees?

(btw do we know each other in RL?)

My children are in a local primary in Kent (grammar school area) which is the only "good" (Ofsted) state primary in the area which has space for newcomers. Last autumn we parents began wondering whether the classes of 18-25 kids would suddenly be swelled by refugees from private schools. Surprisingly, not a single one has made the switch.
FOr info: although the school is rated good by Ofsted and gets one-third to grammar school, it is permanently undersubscribed (dramatically so in KS2) because the three neighbouring schools are all "outstanding".
