We are taking dd1 out of school the first week in feb to taker her to center parcs.

I don't want her to fall behind so will be asking the teachers for any work she will be missing and will ensure that she still does her homework.

I also though getting her to write her own holiday diary to show the teachers when she gets back would be good writing practise.

And I am buying her some more ORT books to take with us and will ensure she reads at least one a day.

Any more tips on things that I could with her while we are away so that she does not fall behind in school? She is in Reception.

I personally wouldn't ask the teacher for any work. Just do your own thing. A holiday diary or scrapbook is a good idea just don't make it hard work, do it togeather.

Instead of the oxford read tree books why not get some nice picture books to read togeather and ask her to point out words she knows and talk about the story.

It's only a week. Loads of children miss a week here and there through illness. It's not like she's doing GCSE's!

My daughter is in year three and I am guilty of taking her to centreparks/ski holidays during the school days. I take the view that the children are learning new skills ie., skiing - building the confidence etc., and learnign about tees , forest etc., or about historical places which as important as reading or mathematical skills.Forget about any work just enjoy your holiday

She loves the ORT books. She chooses those over any other book.

She is planning on going on a nature trail and is doing loads of craft things so it will be educational.

I agree with kittybrown. Leave the ORT books at home-there are lots of different books you can read together and plenty of educational activities. She is not going to fall behind in such a short time.
