ds hurt at school

I got the dreaded phone call yesterday that ds (6) had fallen over, cut his head badly and needed to go to hospital to have it dressed properly.

Dashed to school to collect him and got him sorted out - it was a really nasty cut and he was very pale and quiet for a while but thankfully on the mend.

I was stunned then to recveive a phone call from the head teacher at 8pm both on my mobile and home (messages left as i was putting the dcs to bed so did not answer) asking how ds was , and also one the following morning from the school nurse who had initially looked after him.

This afternoon when I collected dd I saw his class teacher and she too asked how he was (I have kept him off to give it chance to heal but the message had not got to her that he was OK just a bit sore) and said she is going to get the class to do him a card.

I feel incredibly drained over the whole experince - especially as dh is away - but it has really made me feel better to know that the pastoral care at the school is so good that the Head took the time to ring me in the evening to find out how he was. I feel reassured that when he does go back he will be well looked after and there should not be a probem if I ask them to keep him in at break for a day or so or keep him out of too much rough and tumble.

Contrasted with his previous school who sent him home at age 4 with a really nasty series of cuts / grazes on his leg from tree branches with just a plaster (half of it stuck over the cuts!) and not even a word when I collected him

Makes me so glad I moved them both but sad that schools like his first one are allowed to continue when there are clearly other fantastic ones around

Work too have been fab considereing I dashed off at 11am yesterday and did not reappear until lunchtime today, plus asked for the next couple of days off despite an important meeting on Friday to look after ds

This is so nice isn't it? For me the most important bit of an Ofsted (or any other report about a school) is how the pupils are cared for. It makes such a difference when you know they are cared for well.

The school sounds lovely. Sometimes it's the little things that can make such a big difference.

I hope Carbonel Jr is feeling 100% better soon.
