HELP! Handwriting..

Bad mother here (or unobservant mother!) I have just noticed that DS (Y4) holds his pencil in a very upright manner (the pencil) with a somewhat clenched fist.
This seems to explain why his writing is slow, and why his hand hurts when he has to write much!
It may also affect the neatness.

I'm sure i've seen somewhere some kind of special pen that by its' design encourages a better way of holding it. Also, i am sure i've seen a pack "guaranteed to improve handwriting".

My own handwriting is appalling now - through years of typing! But i want to help DS because he's going to have real problems with slow, messy handwriting and a hurting hand!

Anyone got any experience? Anyone know what products i'm talking about? Help!?
Thanks

Having a similar problem with DS7, but his is more related to being left-handed and as no-one else is we're only now just realising it is messy, slow and also he smudges previous words. Got a left-handed kit - special pencil and book. He finds that more interesting than the worksheet teacher gave him (just each letter of the alphabet to copy). So I'd give the pack a try - we do just a few mins most days. Have also heard that those pens are very good - a few of older DD's friends at secondary use them.

In googling i've found the pack i was thinking of, but i can't find the special pen.

I've seen one but it's not what i'm thinking of - the one i'm thinking of has i think almost a plastic spacer which sits in between the pen/pencil and the thumb/index-finger. Anyone know what i mean?

Thanks

could be a Pelikan

Stabilo move pens are very popular atm. They are available in WHS, Tescos, etc. in blue or pink. They also do a left-handed version.

Lots of pupils use them in primary and secondary.

Try triangular pencil grips, which you can get from ELC, I think. This could help.
