Stragling to pay attention and don't sit still in the classroom

My Ds is 4.5 ( reception). Teacher is concerned and seems to think that he has some kind of special needs. I have been working with him solidly for the last week and i can see improvement. However, I need to put my foot down to get his attention. He loves play in his nintendo, very sociable, egar to please and very loving. His behavior is very good. He hates writing! Any suggestions on how can I make pay attention in school, pay attention to instructions and learn?

Have you tried setting a timer and saying if he does 5 minutes of this then he gets a reward like a sticker?Short term goals work well with boys I think.
He is 4 - sitting still is very hard for the average 4 yr old boy - does he sit still for anything he likes doing?
Have you had all the normal checks like hearing and eyesight?
Does he like his teacher/ feel comfortable in the class?

Is his home language English?

Might it be that he's just not mature enough yet to sit still to do something he's not particularly interested in?

When he plays his Nintendo can he concentrate for long periods? If so, then there's not really much wrong with his concentration imo. He just needs to be interested in what he's doing.

You say that he is very sociable, eager to please and very loving. Could you tell him how much it pleases his teacher when he works well? What has his teacher suggested?

For writing, what about getting him to do colouring books at home, or drawing pictures to strengthen his hand and practice holding a pencil. He might dislike writing because it makes his hand ache. Obviously he might just not like doing it because it's not that interesting to him.

I believe they get a surge of testosterone at about 4 which settles down again by 5.This is one of the main reasons people put forward for 4 being too young an age for many boys to start school.
Does he sit still when he is playing on his Nintendo ?

Sorry also meant to say that I help every week in a reception class and would say that being able to sit still and listen for more than a few minutes is more the exception than the rule amongst the boys in the class.
