Does the child have to be baptised to be able to attend?

Thanks

depends if its voluntary aided or voluntary controlled.

LIZS · 09/01/2009 17:08

Criteria will vary but those who are or who can demonstrate they attend church regularly will generally take priority.

nowwearefour · 09/01/2009 17:11

havent heard the baptism points in the 3 cofe schools we have applied to this year. regular attendance is criteria for 2 of the schools. but we are genuine believers having attended for many years so it is not an issue for us.

witchwithallthetrimmings · 09/01/2009 17:15

the overscription criteria should be publically available either from the school itself or from the council web site.

If they have places then they cannot refuse one to anybody (even a satanist) but they are allowed to include things like church attendance, proof of baptism as well as distance betweeen home and school in order to allocate places if there is more than one application for each place

I doubt it... ours has (as second priority below attenders of the CofE church itself), members of other churches ... which might, I think, include Baptists who of course wouldn't be baptized at that age.

And way down the priority list, anyone who lives in village.

Wheelybug · 09/01/2009 17:39

Around here - no proof of baptism required but you have to have attended the church twice a month for 2 years to get priority.

BaggyEyed · 09/01/2009 17:46

What if you are new to Christianity and don't have 2 years?

OP posts:
LIZS · 09/01/2009 17:56

think you'd be met with a

LadyMuck · 09/01/2009 17:58

Then you'll be lumped in whichever the highest category that you do fit in would be. Presumably though you would be in the bottom category to start with (based on distance from school).

If you failed to get in you could go on the waiting list. And when you do reach 2 years attendance then you can reapply which will push you up the waiting list.

PrimulaVeris · 09/01/2009 18:02

Depends on the school.

There is usually a churchgoing priority. My dc's go to a v popular CofE school but the vast majority of attendees are from the parish. Also quite a few muslims and definitely a fair number of atheists/agnostics.

ladyjuliafish · 09/01/2009 18:06

here It means that the governing body, not the LEA set the admission criteria.
