Is there a website which has the curriculum topics for KS2?

Particularly for things like history and science.

Am thinking things like the Romans, the egyptians etc.

I am looking at the books in teh sale on Book People - where there are loads of non-fiction books I am interested in - about Kings and Queens and famous science discoveries and stuff and I would like to chose the most relevant based on teh typical curriculum content.

Standards site has schemes of work - not all schools follow them, and they are looking at changing quite a lot esp. in History & Geography, not sure of the timescale though

Thats the one I was thinking of. My school seems to have followed them pretty closely in Yrs 1&2...so I will use that as a basis.

I know that in subjects like history the goals of the teaching are about the "methods" of discovering history and stuff rather than the actually events in history. I assume that the topics covered on that site are the typical topics?

Well, the junior school I work at covers most of those KS2 history topics - some of the units are done together I think, eg some of the tudor ones. I don't think they follow the geography so closely, but I recognise a lot of the topics.

The science is kept to fairly strictly atm, because of the need to ensure everything is covered for SATS

But we have a new head who is starting to move to a 'creative curriculum', with more emphasis on cross curricular links, so that History & Geography at least will be taught in the context of themes - next half term is Africa - so, as you say it'll be about teaching the 'methods'

It's all very much in transition right now though, may become clearer as we go on.

(In case you think I am worryingly vague about all this, I should say I'm not a teacher, I'm in IT support, but I do a lot of resource finding for the staff)

I knew you weren't a teacher...but supportive in some capacity.

Like i say it is not crtical for it to be 100% accurate...I am not trying to self teach them ahead of the game. But Book People have various non-fiction books for £2-3 a pop so I want to get 2-3; but 2-3 that will be useful to them over the next year or two.
