ds starts school in reception next week, he is supposed to have black pumps for P.E. but i can't find any that actually fit him. he has H width fitting shoes and has a very high instep. I can't put him in pumps that hurt his feet obviously, so does anyone know if anywhere sells wider fitting pumps and if not what should i do? he can't be the first child to have this problem!

what size?

christmasDECOration · 01/01/2009 19:05

have tried clarks and startrite but they only go up to a G (doodles are patterned, they have to be plain black)

he is a 10 1/2. i literally couldn't squeeze his feet into the G width ones in clarks

Mine all have wide fit and have either startrite or doodles. Doodles do plain balck plimsols.

Clary · 01/01/2009 19:23

Start-rite shoes go up to an H (don't think Clarks do actually).

They certainly do plimsolls tho their online store only shows an F fitting (not helpful).

What did store say?

Clarks do one with a velcro strap (doodles in black, as NAB says) which may work in a G?

SoupDragon · 01/01/2009 19:26

DS2 has H width feet and he seems to get on Ok with the bog standard velcro fastening plimsoles.

christmasDECOration · 01/01/2009 19:27

when i asked in the clarks shop they said they only go up to a G width. we tried the G in a bigger size (the ones with the velcro and the normal ones) but couldn't get them onto his feet.

i could only see F on startrite website too.

will ask teacher on monday and see what she suggests!

think the problem is he also has a very high instep so there isn't enough height in them iykwim

I'm having this problem with dd who is in year1, they are doing outside PE after Christmas. I think I'm going to speak to the head and say she will have to have trainers as I can't plimsolls to fit her at all. Again very high instep and broad - it's bad enough getting her shoes to fit.

SoupDragon · 01/01/2009 19:34

I don't think there's height in any width of plimsoll TBH. The velcro ones seem to be more forgiving than the traditional elasticated ones. I think DS2 just has wide feet, I don't think there are instep issues

Seona1973 · 01/01/2009 20:14

dd has fairly wide feet and the marks and spencers velcro ones seem to fit fine. We also got a pair from brantano that were ok too.

christywhisty · 01/01/2009 20:30

MY DS was a H fitting with high instep and velcro ones fitted fine.

CarGirl · 01/01/2009 21:15

The velcro ones only just do up on dd and she says they hurt either side and at the back although there is loads of toe room

NAB3lovelychildren · 02/01/2009 16:00

What size do you want as DS1 has just grown out of his?

morocco · 02/01/2009 16:03

have you tried asda? they fall off my F children so I',guessing are pretty big.

IotasCat · 02/01/2009 16:09

Try going up a half size or size

Madsometimes · 03/01/2009 15:04

My dd1 has very narrow feet, and I have bought her trainers for PE. Plimsolls do not fit her, and are dangerous for her to run in, so I have simply refused to buy them. dd2 has standard feet and she is fine with them, but in my experience plimsolls do not come in width fitting.
