Help me sort out a homework problem

DD is 11 (Yr6)

Since September she has had 2 lots of homework

All the other weeks I have written "No homework seen" in her diary. No action has been taken to my comments

I know she has homework - it was discussed at parents evening (both this year and the one at the end of last year)

Her homework is being done badly at school - is there a solution?

Make an appointment to see her class teacher to discuss this.

Dd's teacher told me that once they get to a certain age they only read the contact diaries if the child tells them there is a message as it would take too much time.

Perhaps an addressed note or a meeting would be better.

That's a job for January I guess

The teacher was supposed to checking her book weekly as the problem was brought to our attention at parents evening

Does she get homework every night? I know my dds do.
Tell her NOT to do it at school and you would like her to do it at home, with you supervising.

Twice a week

When I ask I get 'haven't got any' it is becoming a big issue

Do the teachers give it out on a certain night?(Then you would know when she really didnt have any)
Is it in the bookbag?
As soon as you pick her up, ask and look for it.

KatyMac · 15/12/2008 22:12

No the night varies

I empty her book bag regularly & there isn't anything in there that could be homework - it is so frustrating

Could you try making her do something else?
E.g. each night you have to do x minutes homework.
If you have no homework you have to sit (where i can see you ) and read / do handwriting practise / insert something educational but mildly boring instead.

charmander · 15/12/2008 22:21

if she is Y6 you could buy some of those god awful SAts practise books.

It might give her the incentive to do the homework as home instead of school

KatyMac · 15/12/2008 22:25

What a good idea

I will organise that in January (can't be bothered for the next 4 days )

Hand writing practise.....yum,yum - she is terrible

charmander - I was just going to mention SATS practice books

When we had our Yr6 parents meeting in the October, we were asked to buy Maths and Science SATS revision books and this was to be their homework.

charmander · 15/12/2008 22:35

I like the cpg books.

charmander · 15/12/2008 22:37

Wow two firsts for me - i posted something useful and i did a web link.

Off to do what i should be doing, trying to get references from old employers so i can move to canada.
