What DID the Greeks wear that distinguished them from say the Romans?? Any ideas? Especially bearing in mind the Greek civilisation flourished on the balmy shores of the Mediterranean, not in 2 degree C Hampshire!

We did this last year. We got some white material doulble the lenghth from ds's knees to his shoulders the sewed it up the sides leaving a gap both side for his arms and cut a hole at the top for his neck. He had a piece of cord to tie round his waist and wore a white t-shirt and white long johns under it with sandles. Some of the other boys had white tights with the feet cut off.
Good luck!

Our school does Greek day in summer, so they can all flounce around in sheets togas.

You're right, I wouldn't fancy a toga atm in the UK!

I just read that as GEEK day and wondered why you were all going on about toga's

if old sheet could draw a greek key design round the hem - is what we did for DS

The differences were subtle. In terms of a school event the decoration on Greek dress was more ornamental and on Roman dress it was symbolic. Greek dress was plainer and men also wore fewer clothes! Women often wore gold headbands.
