Dh is asking a favour of MN teachers ...

Can you please help him compile a list of interesting topic titles.
The thing is he wants new and interesting suggestions, not the usual old ones like "The Victorians" or "Tudor Times" for example.
An example of a topic which has been successful is "Technology and Inventions" which allowed the class to research cars, formula one, design their own time machine and write a sci-fi story. Apparently this was a huge success, especially with the boys.

Any help would be HUGELY appreciated. Thanks in advance to any who help.

DD is doing Dead Famous People..and is allowed to choose anyone as long as they are dead
I'm not sure what you could call that but there is certainly scope for individuality.

I really enjoyed doing a "desert island" theme with yr5, they did treasure maps (one little chap got his dad to burn the edges and make it look real!) , messages in a bottle, map signs and symbols, digging for treasure, all kinds of mad stuff. Co-ordinates for maths, geog features [the maps had a cove, volcano, river, woodland, etc on them] PHSE was deciding where on the island would be best to put your camp considering food shelter etc, and the most hilarious afternoon of drama where they each took on the role of a character that they chose (mainly based on a job) and decided who was going to get to stay in the boat and why...
Fabby. Would do it all again

one hilarious coincidence with the current "I'm(possibly) a celeb" going on atm

Aw thank you so much, I'll let him know these, he'll be made up. He's desperate to make things more interesting for his class.

How about "Changes"

Covers "materials and their properties" for Science, any of the history units, life cycles in science, Body changes in PHSE etc.etc.

We don't plan to 'topics' anymore but instead use a guiding purpose or question as part of a learning journey. For example a boring Victorians topic could now have a guiding purpose such as 'Organise a Victorian Christmas celebration' or a historical period could be covered through a guiding question such as, 'would you like to have lived in the 1960's?'. The children are much more engaged as there is an outcome or end result that they know from the outset (our children are now even able to generate the questions/purposes themselves and identify activities that need to happen before the learning journey is complete). Also focuses on key skills rather than just subject knowledge. Hope this helps
