What a lovely way to introduce yourself (teacher) to new class

DD will be starting kindy (reception) in January here in Oz and yesterday she got a letter in the post with her name on it which she was very excited to open (she doesn't get much post!). Inside was the most beautiful letter from her new kindy teacher with a photo, introducing himself and telling her a little bit about himself and his family. It also had lots of nice bits about all the fun they would have in kindy, as well as telling them about all the exciting things they would be learning.

DD is already at the pre-school and as part of the transition programme has been spending time in both the kindy classes so she knows him (and was hoping he would be her teacher), but I thought it was such a lovely thing to do, especially for kids who will be coming to the school for the first time in January. Brought a tear to my eye!

The teachers in uk should take a leaf out of you dd's teachers book.

That is such a lovely way of introducing themselves

What a great idea, sunnydelight! A little bit of effort on the teacher's part but the results should be well worth it for both teacher and pupils. I wish more schools did this - even the senior schools.

I do this every year. The week before school starts in September I send each child a postcard saying how much I'm looking forward to seeing them again.

I've had really positive feedback from parents about it and several have said that it has helped to soothe any back-to-school or starting-school nerves their dc has.

I feel it sets a really good tone for the start of our year together.

I used to do this when I was a form tutor in MLD school to my new year 7s too, it's a lovely idea

That's really lovely. Love the postcard idea, too.

DS2 had one like this
He was due to have had (and had met at intriduction afternoon) one teacher but then she didn't start at the school so he had a different teacher who wrote to introduce himself.

He's lovely - and even better than that, DS2 is in Year 1 now and has him this year as well

OMG, ramonaquimby! I loved that book!

That is lovely, my dd would be over the moon to get that.

As a head of year and now as a form tutor I send a letter home saying who I am, what I hope to achieve etc with contact details.

llareggub, there's a whole series of books about Ramona and her family - I think they've been reprinted fairly recently (but I still seem to have most of my own childhood copies).
