I am going to have school lunch with dd today. Anyone else's school doing this?

On the menu is roast beef and yorkshire puddings.

Apparently I have to sit on child size chairs - will my ample bottom fit?

Oh yes, dd's school does this for all new parents. I went two years ago and it was lovely, they have a very good cook and the dining room is very pleasant. T'was fun (we had roast chicken.....)
Bon appetit!

Thank you!

DD is very very excited, this is the first year I have been able to take part as ds is now at full time school. (they are at different schools)

I went at the start of term and it was scrummy! It really is good fun, although you are in a weird twilight world of being 5 again and being a huge grown up giant

bellavita · 13/11/2008 10:44

I went and had my christmas lunch with DS2 last year - it was lovely. In fact any parent can go in any day (as long as they pay ) and have lunch.

ajandjjmum · 13/11/2008 11:04

Ds's prep school used to do this. They had an open week for parents each term. When ds was young he used to love me going in, but as he got older I was encouraged less and less!

I am undecided what to wear.

Will you get conrflake tart?

Fimbo · 13/11/2008 11:11

Ooh I remember them from my school days PM. No I can't remember what the "afters" is but cornflake tart is not ringing a bell (ho ho what a pun).

I have to be there for 12.10 and dd has to come and escort me to the dining room apparently!

aw sweet....

pooka · 13/11/2008 11:14

dd's school does it - am going next week for lunch.

I think it's a great idea. Think I'm having roast chicken and then chocolate pudding and chocolate custard.

Fimbo · 13/11/2008 11:15

I think I will just go for jeans and a top. I don't want to look mumsy but neither do I want to go glam!

I did this with my DD and it was great fun. Was a really lovely experience although the food was disappointing (but to be fair was expecting it to be any different). Enjoy it.

LongDroopyBoobyLady · 13/11/2008 11:26

Should have typed "but to be fair was NOT expecting it to be any different".

Our school is doing this. Whenever one year is out on a school trip, they invite the parents of another year. The children love it and the food is quite nice actually.

Fimbo · 13/11/2008 13:57

I am back. I had roast beef, yorkshire pudding, carrots, cabbage and roast potatoes. Then a slice of pineapple. It was all really nice and surprised me. The cabbage was al dente not soggy as I remember from my school days, The carrot was crinkle cut which I do remember from school.

It was served on a plate not those plastic tray things the dc get! .

I am glad I went as dd is now in year 6 and off to high school next year. I do have ds but he loathes school dinners so can't see it happening again.

fimbo what did you wear?

waht did they talk about?

did you ahve to go and play in the playgroud after? did yo uplay whts the time mr wolf? or british bulldg? or elastics?

gremlindolphin · 13/11/2008 21:45

Dds school did this when she started and it was fab! She was so excited I was there, the food was great.

Only downside was that all the seating was benches attached to tables and it was a bit of a struggle getting in as the table was at the height that my knee needed to bend to get in! I got in okay and ate lunch constantly thinking about how I was going to get out again but it was fine.

Fimbo · 13/11/2008 22:51

LOL at NP.

You are not allowed to play elastics or British bulldog on the grounds of health and safety . Not in my day it wasn't.

The main talk was about the food! There were loads of parents, luckily I was first in the queue, it took about 1/2hr to serve everyone.

I went for a donder roond dd's classroom afterwards then went home.

I wore my new Frye boots, jeans and a long sleeved t-shirt with a mac on top.

Yes we do this at DD's school, we can also take along her little sister, they both love it, and the food is great!

Anna8888 · 14/11/2008 09:41

Yes, my DD's school does this but for class reps only.

HappyMummyOfOne · 14/11/2008 12:16

We get the chance a couple of times a term, its really strange eating off the plastic trays and tiny benches but the children love it.
