Malory - or others that know about primary supply - can you help?

I am biting the bullet and returning to teaching (have been a SAHM for 2 years, followed by a 8 month stint as a TA, finishes next week). I am applying for proper P/T jobs but need some supply to tide me over. Have an appt lined up next week with a supply agency but I knwo it is better to go and show your face at nice schools with a CV so plan to do this too.

Would you just turn up on spec? Book an appt with the headteacher? and how detailed would you recommend my CV should be?

(Any other advice gratefully taken on board)

Cheers

I'm doing primary supply at the mo, untill childminding takes off. I'm now known to a few local schools which is ideal but began by ringing a few local schools to ask what to do to get on lists. Some just took my name and number, others asked for my CV or a letter. I also rang my LEA and got on their list and signed up to 2 agencies. Tnh I didn't like the agency wk, it was always too far away but was more frequent at the beginning untill I got onto local lists. Good Luck!

Pop your cv into the schools YOU would like to work at; supply is hard work at the best of times, so you dont want to end up working at a school where it would be hell for you; and that is where the agencies will send you IYSWIM

Most schools are desperate for well-qualified, reliable supply teachers so you should get some work pretty quickly. Plus if you work for yourself, rather than an agency, you will get more money as the agency takes a cut.

Remember, if you organise things yourself, rather than via an agency, you are then classed as self-employed so you will have to do your own tax etc.

Thanks for comments. CV now updated, will start trawling some of the local primaries next week.

Finish my job on fri so will spend next week dropping CV with schools. Fingers crossed I get some work!
