Literacy is not DS1's favourite subject....not much imagination.
Anyway...once a week he gets spellings and has to write 10 sentences with spellings.
He struggles to do this anyway, but every week he gets the same comment from his teacher " use some openers"
I'm not sure what on earth she means.. his first sentences were I, but now start, One day, When, etc. So what on earth does she mean?
Help please. He's doing VCOP (?)

Try starting with words ending in ly

Quietly, I crept around the shop

Unusually, mum made me eat my sprouts for tea.

Pants examples, but hopefully you get the gist

Or does she mean use the spelling to start the sentence?

eg spellings are:

through
gone, etc.

sentences"
Through the window i can see a ...
Gone are the days when...

'If' is a good one.

If the teacher were precise, the schoolboy would understand.

Or 'instead'.

Instead of making sense, the teacher was full of claptrap.

Thanks guys... this is soo stressful, every week we try and work out what she means. I'm going to have to go and see her aren't I

You can always ask her to be more specific - it's a vague instruction and I'm sure she'd be happy to give more details.

I agree with Justkeepswimming - I think she means use the words at the beginning.

VCOP stands for Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers, Punctuation.

Amongst the openers suggested he could use

'First, then, next, so, last/ly, soon, after, although, before, eventually, sometimes, often, however, despite, meanwhile'

If you google vcop the first result should lead you to Sparklebox VCOP resources. If you have a printer you could print off resources...it's all free.

Good luck!
