A possibly stunningly silly question about Montessori education

Is it part of the Montessori method that all women and girls must wear skirts/dresses? I've only recently noticed that the female teachers at DS's school never wear trousers, and the uniform list only gives the option of a tunic dress or a summer dress for the girls.

Um... I don't think so (but could be wrong)

Possibly it's the headteachers personal preference then.

My SIL is a Montessori teacher and she always wears trousers to work.

Mine are at Montessori and the teachers wear trousers. There's only one male teacher and he wear trousers too.

Majority of teachers at my ds's M nursery wore trousers.

LOL at the male teacher wearing trousers, they do at DS's school too, funnily enough. (BTW, I know there should have been an apostrophe in headteacher's. Must proof-read more.)

One of my friends is a TA at the school, I must remember to ask her the next time I see her.

He's been there since January and I've only started to notice this in the last couple of weeks. I'm a bit slow on the uptake I think.

On the assumption that a Montessori school is a private school it is very, very common that in private schools girls are only allowed to wear dresses/skirts.

I dont know re montessori but steiner school teachers have a thing about wearing aprons!

My old private school has trousers for girls now. Scruffy gits. We campaigned for years to wear trousers. Had to wait for the headmistress to die obviously. Still, they would have been burgundy flares. Better orf in our frocks.

I kind of get the traditional girls wearing dresses thing, I had to wear a skirt when I was at school, but I've never noticed a school before where the female teachers never wore trousers which is why I wondered if it was a Montessori thing.

DS's v. straight down the line Montessori nursery teacher usually wore jeans.

All the children wore smocks, but I think that was just to keep their clothes clean. (And wearing a smock is probably the nursery equivalent of having a straw boater...)

At my DD's montessori primary the teachers wear whatever they like. As do the pupils.

Though like at MadamePlatypus's nursery, the pre-schoolers wear smocks to keep their clothes clean.

My dd was at Montessori nursery, and the teacher's definitely wore trousers.
Steiner school teachers, particularly in kidergarten and for the younger children- have to wear skirts or a dress; the curved shape is more spiritual . Also, they have very defined views on the roles of the sexes ... sexist in fact...
