I am worried, because they are voting in a new chair and vice chair, I am not very good at saying no if they ask to get involved. I dont have much spare time but don't mind doing my bit.............

Also, I have done a lot of fund matching (through my employer) without much thanks, but if i don't go then they don't get the opportunity to thank me do they?

I always go, but then I am on the PTA. You won't get roped into anything you don't want to do, but when you see how sparse the turnout is and how everyone is mucking in, it can get contagious. I'd go, they will be grateful to see a new face, after all it's your child that will benefit with the funds raised.

As a naive new parent I trotted along to the AGM PTA at my ds's school recently. I foolishly assumed that I would meet parents of his classmates so thought it would be a good opportunity to get to know them. I work full time and never do the school run. To get there for when it started I had to go straight from work too.

Out of 26 pupils in my ds's year (reception) there were 5 parents, 2 of which were from my ds's class - me and the only other parent I have met so far (on the first day). I was amazed by the low turnout. Probably 30 in total for 250 pupils and that included the PTA committee. I was asked if I wanted to volunteer but it was made very clear that the level of commitment was completely up to me. I figure if I get involved in one event a year that will be one event more than the other 88% of parents.

Go! I echo everyone elses comments. If you are realistic in your own mind re: your time and what you feel comfortable with, you will enjoy it and the others involved with be grateful for your involvement.

I've just taken on Joint Chair for my sins!
