I have dc in

Y6
Y4
Y2
Y1

and they never fetch any homework home at all ,ds in y6 has occasionally fetched a worksheet home and dd2 had reading recovery last year but thats it .

They do send letters home each term asking us to help dc with whatever they are doing that term ,I just find it a little strange .

I moved my dc's from school where they never had a piece of homework, except reading. they couldn't spell, didn't know their x tables and I had enough of trying to work out how they should be taught at home on my own.
Now they have a lot of homework,.. probably too much, but dc's are enjoying it as it is very research based, as well as the spellings and the times tables.

Ours have no homework at ks1 (apart from reading, and the very occasional spelling list which we ignore, there's no pressure to attend to it.
And pretty minimal (5 mins a week) in yrs 3 and 4. not sure about yrs 5 or 6 as my children haven't done that.

I know it's a deliberate policy by the school, sometimes the teachers cave to parent pressure and suggest a bit of homework but they don't like doing so. Which is fine by me.

My children do like homework when it's topics or research. But it's never been enough to be a burden. and more or less optional.

There is a really interesting article in The Times today this page.
A top achieving secondary school is cutting right back. It says that excessive homework has been called for by government and pushy parents.
