Am I being precious to be bothered about this?

My 5 year old daughter has just told me a teacher said to her and a boy this morning "my, what a big tummy you have you must have had a lot of breakfast."

I have food issues and definitely do not want my daughter to get bothered about her weight. It has taken ages to build up her appetite.

It's not a good day for school kids. My son got told off for not having enough stripes showing on his tie FGS. He is 7.

let the teacher know that your daughter commented on this, and see what she says. She will prob make out it was a joke, and then you can just remind her that these are the types of comments which start eating disorders off. I doubt she will say it again.

As for the tie WTF??? Madness! How many stripes would they like to see?

I have just asked her and she doesn't know the person's name so it wasn't a teacher in her year nor a TA.

Maybe he was sticking his tummy out or showing his bare tummy to a pal and teh teacher was using humour to get him to put it away. I'd find out the context.

But it's obv an odd school if they are bothered about stripes on ties.

The boy showed his tummy a bit but my daughter didn't. Last thing she would do at school.

Didn't the teacher say it to the boy, though, and your dd just thought she was getting into trouble for lookjing?

ImnotMamaGbutsheLovesMe · 15/09/2008 18:56

She said it to my DD first then the boy.

I hate the fact that we just have to accept things others do or say for the want of not being seen as a pest but there are enough problems without giving a 5 year old a ocmplex about her tummy.

i am not sure really the food issues surely she will see at home not at school a jokey comment shouldnt turn her view but if you have issues maybe you need to deal with them so it doesnt rub off on her as such an innocent comment has upset you as you have issues

i say to my ds what a big belly have you gobbled all that food up but i dont expect he'll gain a complex its a joke

bubblagirl · 15/09/2008 19:15

i dont mean that horribly but you seem to be thinking that comment will give your daughter a comlex but how do you react around food?

my friend has issues with food and her dd was just the same as it rubbed off on her and they have both had to do alot of work to change there views on food

ImnotMamaGbutsheLovesMe · 15/09/2008 19:51

It is fine.

She talked to her dad and apparently they were both playing at sticking out their tummies! Why didn't she tell me that?

My kids have no clue about my food issues. I wasn't fed as a child so I am not good at trying to eat proper;y to lose weight.
