Do I speak to the teacher about this & forever be a labeled a pushy mother?

On practising the phonic letter sounds with DS we discovered that he can very easily sound out basic 3 letter words. We are due to have a phonic lesson at school soonish, but I have no idea if they are doing this in class at the moment - know that they are doing S T & M.

Should I mention to the teacher that DS can do this, because I unsure of how to take it further at home, and want to trust the school to teach at his pace.

Does that make sense? Am I being too pushy? He was so proud of himself!!

Let the teacher assess him for herself.

Don't say anything, a fair few will be able to do this. They will get round to checking their reading levels and give him books for where he is at . They all get the same letters regardless of whether they k ow them or not.

Let it go for the moment. We had the Reception phonics meeting yesterday (stap are the letter of the week, apparently ).

Dd2 has been obsessed with letters for ages and can in fact read reasonably fluently. I'm assuming the teacher will realise this at some point, otherwise I guess it will come up at the first parents' meeting. Tbh I'd only go in and raise it specifically if dd were persistently complaining about finding the work boring, which is pretty unlikely atm. There's a lot more to reception than learning to read imo.
