I am astounded at how much they are expecting us to pay to go for swimming lessons I have helped in the past & know that they don't actually achieve much. How much do you pay?

Johnbarrowman loves me.

You CAN refuse, please don't let the school bully you into telling you otherwise.

Education HAS to be provided FREE of charge to all children unless parents opt for independant schooling.

Within that there is a statutory requirement to provide some sort of swimming lessons at KS2 unless they have already been provided at KS1 and the childre are up to standard.

The school can ask for voluntary contributions and to be honest if you can afford them AND you think the lessons are value for money then I reckon you should pay however there will be parents out there who can not afford the money, perhaps they have 2 or 3 children each being asked ot pay or are on benefits etc.

It is important that those people are not put under pressure to pay for something they can not afford.

smartiejake, at out school children who opt out from the lessons have to be collected by their parents and go home, as they do not have the staff to look after them.

DS would be delighted to be collected by me & come home

We could find the £50 somehow (pasta for dinner every day ) but I don't think the lessons are value for money plus the fact that he has private swimming lessons every week anyway it seems like a total waste of money to me.

when they assess all the children at the first lesson ,they would probably find that quite a few of them would be up to standard, therefore would not need to go swimming with school & so with less kids to pay for maybe the school could pay for them

£25 for a term. Which is about half the price of lessons booked privately at the same pool.
