Private nursery in to state primary

Hi, my daughter is at a nursery that is linked with a private school. I have decided that I'd like her to go to our local primary school when she's finnished nursery but they would take her in January when she's 5 because of her date of birth.
At my daughters nursery they go in to whats called transition at 4.5 where they are still in the nursery building but get their school uniform. She would be in that uniform for 6 months untill she moved schools. It's not the cost of the uniform that bothers me, I just don't know how she'll take having her new "big girls" uniform then having to move schools and getting another unifom.
Should I say "This is your big nursery uniform, and soon you'll have a big school uniform the same as your cousens".
I just don't want her to resent me for taking her out of the school.

She is 5 in march. I will check it out when I go and view the school in September.
I've thought about home ed too.

In our County schools now have to hold an allocated place open for a child whose parents choose for them not to start immediately. They have to hold space open until statutory school start time, which as stated above is the beginning of the term after their 5th birthday.

That is very new here though (and not well publicised), I don't know whether it is true across the country.

when's easter lol? if her birthday is before the hol, then she would have to start for the summer term... if you are lucky and easter hol is early, and her birthday is after, you can stretch it until september if you want -
decisions decisions...

Oh March, OK.

Well I still would imagine most LEAs with two intakes would have her staring in Sept but I might be wrong, she's just on the cusp, and some LEAs have a blanker rule (eg "all born before April") while some vary it according to that year's intake.

That's not very helpful is it.

Easter is early April next year btw so she would have to start in the summer term at latest.

sorry for typos - starting not staring and blanket not blanker.

Too busy watching the Tudors at the same time

MLL I think I've read an earlier thread from you about your decision - glad you've resolved the issue - feel sure you've made the right decision.

And I don't for a minute imagine she will resent you - just explain it to her and she will be fine.

In our LEA, which still has (thnakfully) 2 intakes (Sept and Jan), a march baby would start in the September. The cut off here is the last day of March.

If she is a jan starter, I would start her then, with her peers. If you wait until the september she would go straight into a year one established class rather than benefitting from time in reception playing and making friends.

Would echo the advice about seeing if there is a nursery near the school that "feeds" (insofar as providing a proportion of the intake) into the school, or one that is attached to the school.

Here all pre-schools/nurseries are private, though some are attached or sited within state school grounds. They don't automatically feed into the state school, you still have to apply, and attending one does not guarantee admission to the main school. DD (also Lucy) went to a lovely pre-school at our preferred school but didn't get in because of exceptionally high number of applications/being 50m too far away from the school. While the school she goes to has a pre-school attached, I don't like it very much and so ds will go to the other pre-school like she did.

I think it would be better for Lucy to start in January too with the others. She will probably find it easier to settle in.

Where I live the cut off month is March so Sept-Feb babies start in September and the others in January.

I wouldn't worry too much about what Lucy will think about moving schools. You will be able to get her new uniform (and ribbons ) and get her all excited all over again. It sounds like you are doing the right thing to me. I can't help but think, from my experience of teaching in the State and Private school systems, that she will get more help in a state school.

My dd is not going to know anyone when she starts in September, she is not that confident, she is allergic to peanuts and she is the only non white child for miles so I am worried too.
