in year 2 what does a SAT level 2 mean - not a 2a, 2b or 2c just a 2

does that mean it's lower than a 2c or that it hasn't been classified for some reason

I think that they are only broken into levels for writing , maths and reading - science and speaking and listening are only given eiter a level 1 2 or 3.

Level 2 is the expected level for a child at the end of Year2.

Exactly what the other 2 posters said!

They are only broken down into levels for Writing, Maths and Reading
If level 2 is written for any of these subjects then it means 2c (as I understand it)

For other subjects there is no sublevelling, so level 2 means exactly that.

They are broken down into 2abc for maths too but teachers only need to report W,1,2, or 3 overall.

No - the requirement for Maths, Reading and Writing is to report a w, 1, or a 3 as exactly that, but if it's a level 2 it has to be broken down and reported as 2c, 2b or 2a.

The only requirement for Speaking and Listening and Science is to report a broad W, 1, 2 or 3 as a level.

The 2 reported in the op's first post could therefore refer to a 2c, 2c or 2a, but doesn't have to be reported in as detailed a fashion as that. It's harder to break down Speaking and Listening, tbh, and possible in Science but not always helpful to teachers. These subjects don't lend themselves to sublevelling as easily.
