School Uniform Name Labels

DD starts in reception in September and I wondered if anyone could recommend uniform name labels. Do the iron on ones stay put or should I really go for the sew on ones? Are there any labels which are less scratchy than others (DD hates labels!)

I got iron on ones last year for Kindergarten Uniform. Now they are off to school so I thought Id sell the smocks but on so securely that I Cant get the tags off now!

I have used the easy2name ones - they iron on lovely (individual letters, not tape) but I don't know if they will last well, will have to see..

I use Cash's name tapes.

I have just sewn in 90% of DD's labels (senior school, so major games kit and other bits and pieces), and it took me about an hour using the sewing machine. I have about 5 things that need to be hand-sewn, and I think that will take me less than half an hour.

I use Cash's nametapes too, and in the process I discovered why it is that people with several children often homeschool them. It's because 2 is the critical number of children after which there aren't enough hours in your life to sew on all the labels you need for all the school uniform pieces.

Permanent markers on labels and white trouser pocket linings: use them on everything, even the inside of shoes and plimsoles. Masking tape on some things with the name written on in pen or marker: good for water bottles and various boxes, needs frequent replacement, but what the hay. Those plastic strip letter punch hand held machine things: good stickability for those things the markers alone or the masking tape don't suit!!! (It's a jungle out there... !)

Without sounding too daft, how do you sew the labels in?!! I have the Cash ones. Do you fold the edges over, sew all the way round, what colour cotton?

Great idea i have found for lunch boxes, bags and coats is photo zip pulls. You can have a photo of your child's face made into a zip pull i think around £2.50 each. Perfect for those just starting school or just learning to read or even older (my 8 year old loves them) as makes for easy identification. www.photastics.com or I think you can also buy them on ebay

I just use a laundry pen.

Did the iron in label thing with dd when she started. Could never be bothered after that. Now just write our surname because DS1 is wearing her old polo shirts/fleece and so on.

I have found labels from labels4uniforms.co.uk really cheap. The postage is free and the labels haven't fallen off! I paid £2.50, bargain

cartoonsaveme · 15/03/2015 18:31

Mynametag are amazing. The trick with iron on ones it get iron correct temp. They only fall off if not on properly in the beginning. Mine have been washed and thro dryer for 2 years without coming off

Possible zombie thread BUT can anyone help me.

A couple of years ago I ordered sew in ones that included the name and then underneath a space for email address... i.e

Careless Child
[email protected]

They work really well and I've even had an item dropped in the strew returned. However I can't remember which company does this. Any ideas?

NonnoMum · 27/07/2017 17:39

Thank you BringOn

Bumpsadaisie · 27/07/2017 17:43

People always say sew in are better than iron in as they stay out longer.

So last September I decided to be a proper motte and sew labels into two sets of uniform. But my seeing is so hopeless it (a) took ages and (b) the labels came out anyway.

Stickins off amazon. Brilliant!!

TheScottishPlay · 28/07/2017 13:01

I would recommend Cash's name labels. I bought them for DS when he started Primary 1 in 2009. I'm just about to sew the same ones into his new uniform for Second year at High School.

TomMK · 22/08/2017 13:33

The best place that I have just found is a place called Woven Labels UK (www.wovenlabelsuk.com) but then having done a wider search found that they also trade through Amazon Marketplace and that their prices are even cheaper there.

Admittedly I haven't seen the finished product yet as I only ordered last night but 60 fabric/woven labels with postage was £4.49 (£0.075p/label). (Ordered direct it would have cost £5.98 for 72 (£0.083p/label)).

I will post again to comment about the quality of the labels when we've received them but so far the service has been good.
