Who else has a child leaving primary this week?

My dd started at the primary in 1993 and I've done school gate duty ever since.

I'm really emotional about ds2 leaving and know I'm going to be a weeping mess at the things for leavers this week.

Anyone else?

My youngest d leaves next week, and it will be very strange as we live opposite the school gates, but will no longer be part of that community.

They're doing a leavers play set in 2038 (god, i'll be in my sixties then) about their primary school reunion, and I'm bound to both laugh and cry.

I think she will be sad, but ready to move on.

Lilibet - Congratulations to your ds2: great achievements. You are right to be proud of him.

I am already getting upset. I love the DCs school (no matter what Ofsted say!) and I have always felt that the children were happy and safe there. DS#1 is leaving on Tuesday - they have a Leavers breakfast at 8 (bbq in the garden) followed by an assembly and a play. I can take DS to the school in time for breakfast but can't do the rest so DH is going to do that. Quite glad as I will weep like a tap and DS will be sooo embarrassed. The worst thing is that he is leaving most of his mates as they are mostly going to another school....and I will miss them. Almost without exception the children in his class are wonderful, lively, polite, friendly, good company.

I will want details about the assembly mind you ! Expecting school to make a big fuss of the class - they got by far the highest SATs marks ever in the school. Funnily enough DS got 78 for his science - second in the class. Still haven't got literacy papers back though.

DS can't wait to go. Yr 6 was more or less a tedious slog for him and he's outgrown primary. I just know that it will fly by until DD is off in 2 yrs time and then there'll only be DS#2

My eldest DS leaves today. My baby how can he be in high school? Why don't I feel old enough to be a mum of child at high school!?

I'm sure I will be total mush at leavers assembly today

My youngest left his primary school on Thursday, which feels very odd as we have had children at that school for 11 years.

He than started secondary school yesterday which felt even more odd! He has a whole week at secondary school before breaking for the summer holiday. First day seemed to go fine, he met everyone in his new tutor group, did lots of icebreaker games and had a tour of the school. The proper timetable starts on Monday.

So far so good!

My dd1 finishes next Tuesday and is really looking forward to starting at High School. I am though, but at least DD2 still has another 2 years there.

She had her prom last night and they presented all the leavers with a bear with a jumper embroidered with their school and 2008 on it. We thought that was a lovely touch

DD2 finished yesterday and had the leavers' concert on Thursday. She cried (which I was surprised about), all her friends cried (even the boys), the teacher cried but all of the parents were dry-eyed as far as I could see!

She still seems too young for "big school" - dd1 was more than ready for it, having been bored for most of Year 6 but dd2 loves her teacher and has always seemed "younger" than dd1 did at that age.

Half of the girls are going to the same secondary school though, so she should be fine.

MaryAnn, I'm in Wiltshire. It's the only school I know that works this way, and it really works brilliantly.

My dd is 11 and is not even leaving as her school goes up to year 8

I still feel emotional though, its about her growing up, and her school calls years 7 and 8 seniors

it just sounds a really sensible idea ecoworrier - to get a taste of secondary school and settle in a bit before Sept. so it's not quite as daunting

It was leavers assembly today. I am so not an emotional person but I sat with tears running down my cheeks as they showed a montage of photos accompanied by Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars Last day tomorrow.

DS cried in school at the assembly (as they all did apart from one lad). Came home with a shirt covered in autographs and an autograph book signed by all the teachers and TAs etc. He went back for a leavers party and when he came home he sobbed for about 30 mins . This from a child who couldn't wait to leave! But they were an exceptionally nice bunch of children and I will miss them too. The teachers didn't want them to leave!
