Just had a letter home from DS1's primary school to say that the only male class teacher in the school is leaving......

for a "promoted" position in a different school. I'm gutted, he's a fantastic teacher and I was really hoping that DS2 would have him when he got to YR2 (he had a 50/50 chance only being 2 classes in each year). He also runs the YR2 after school sports club which DS1 adores.

They've sent the new staffing information home in the letter and there's going to be no male teachers at all. Thankfully we have a male headteacher.......just hope he sticks around (only been here 1yr) as I think men working in primary/infants schools is a really positive thing to have.

once you get oen they all come

Why didn't your school offer him an incentive to stay then if he is so good?

TheChicken · 26/06/2008 16:35

we had two male teachers that were both good, one left as he wasn't made head and i noticed the other one got a new job at the catholic school.

although the teachers are like rats leaving a sinking ship at our school.

ours is only a small school, , the way the letter is worded I wouldn't be surprised if he'd off to be deputy head of a bigger school.

Sadly, not at all uncommon to have all female primary schools. I think our schools are def. the worse for it!

What a shame. We do have about 4 male teachers in a fairly big school but the vast majority are female. DS#1 has managed to miss all the male teachers all the way through school - apart from for one subject in Yr5.

DH is trained as a ks2 teacher and (obviously) he is male. But will he consider going back to teaching? Will he hell...

My DS would really have benefitted from a male teacher in primary. They had 2 in the school but DS never ended up in either of their classes. Ironically, DD did have one of the 2 male teachers and I wasn't that impressed with him. The other is fab but neither of my DCs have been in his class. I wish more men would consider teaching primary. Our DSs need them!

That is a shame, my best primary school teacher were all male. Back in the seventies/eighties there were loads of men in the profession.
