Mums of very thin reception girls, pls help!

I have ordered (and mostly returned) at least £300 worth of school trousers in the last month I can't find a single one that looks ok and fits.
Some of the ones with adjustable waist can be adjusted to fit the waist but they look like she did a big poo in her nappy (she obviously doesn't wear one! )
To make it worse, all the adjustable waist ones are polyester. ALL the cotton pull ones I found don't have an adjustable waist. Whyyyyy???

ASDA found one slim fit that has really bad reviews saying it's much too slim lol. This one is ok, but feels poor quality.

Anyone managed to find something that actually looks ok on a slim petite 4.5yo and with good quaility? Preferably cotton?

And before you say about dresses, i don't want her in dresses, she is very active and a climber, she won't be able to do everything she wants in a dress.

In day to day she lives in leggings but the school won't accept those (how crazy is that, why not?!)

I don’t quite understand why only 2 pairs of trousers would mean washing daily. Surely they can wear trousers for 2-3 days before they need a wash.

Literally none of my DD's reception or yr1 or Yr2 wear trousers. But they do start wearing in the older years.

@Sinkysocksno she won't. She already goes to a uniform-wearing nursery (that allows leggings). Other girls wear dresses, she isn't much fond of them (the dresses, not the girls 😁 )

Bear in mind it’s also 7-8 weeks until she starts school (unless you’re in Scotland) so she could have a growth spurt over the summer. Realistically, how much climbing is she going to be doing at school??

@kisaki333 the slim fit M&S that I linked to have ages 2-3 and 4-5 left. They have an adjustable elasticated waistband that goes tiny. I’d try them.

I used to take dd1’s in (badly and roughly) but thankfully she mostly chose dresses so it was only one year of this. Brownie uniform was the worst - had to buy age 4 culottes to fit her waist when she was 9! Dd is now 18 and a size 6 5’8” woman (size 4 until 17.5). It’s her build. Her clothing world opened up as soon as she fit adult clothing and xxs in primark!

Also, what about cycling shorts under a summer dress. That's what my dds have been wearing.

Remember you'll have PE some days so won't need 5 sets of uniform

Not necessarily. DD was the other way round, she started in dresses/pinafores because she wanted to copy books she'd read about school, then pretty much immediately decided she preferred her brother's hand me down trousers. Which is how we discovered that boys trousers worked (he's also very slim so had extra long ones in a smaller size), and stuck with those till she hit teens and grew hips.

Not with my little one. She is an active explorer... pretty much need to wash everything she's in after 1 day.

Not all schools do the PE kit all day on PE days thing. Ours only started this year. With not enough notice. To my great annoyance.

I’m not sure why you’re so anti playsuits. Of all the things to try and ban from your house that is an odd one. Most of the girls at my child’s school have moved from dresses to the play suits. They’re comfy and practical without the need to double up on cycling shorts and a dress.

Loads of kids hate tights. You’ll likely get away with leggings instead of tights or just wear long socks. When it has been very cold I put my daughter in thermal leggings under her pinafore dress. I’ve seen plenty of kids sticking to socks even in the coldest of weathers.

But how much exploring and climbing will she actually be doing in school? It’s very different to nursery.

expensive, but worth it. most school trousers are cut for overweight children unfortunately

My son was small and pretty skinny in reception - m&s slim fit 'boys' trousers in a smaller size worked well - age 2-3 or 3-4. They don't have button at that age.

Or can you just try and find stretchy grey toddler trousers in the right size?

Or shorts - my kids wore shorts all year round in primary.

My very slim ds wears M&S slim fit slim leg trousers. The go down to age 2/3. For reference my ds is 9 and a half and generally in age 7-8. He currently has these in 8-9 and they are really good on his tiny frame.

I've never found any trousers for my dd that fit yet but she wants them from the girls section.

My DD is very tall but very thin - 7-8 for length but needs a 3-4 waist. We've ended up with dresses/ pinafores with cycling shorts under as trousers just drop down.

I have looked up a YouTube tutorial for taking in trousers - it is very easy, you just need to lay aside half an hour or so to take them in. It's far cheaper than paying someone to alter them and is actually not difficult at all.

Our local primary had a relaxed uniform and leggings instead of tights were popular under dresses for girls.

Best trousers for super skinny DC1 were M&S extra long a couple of years younger to get the smaller waist.DC2 was ok with the slim fit in correct height. Shorts or culottes are good as you can size to fit the waist. Avoid skirts.

2 pairs should be enough. Spot clean or wash straight after school and they will be dry by morning.
