Youngest child didnt get a place at 2 older siblings school, we moved out of catchment just before school applications.
School they have given me is 2 minutes from my house. Current childrens school is local to my job so I had no intention of moving them.
Youngest on waiting list for current childrens school.
Have enquired about moving older two to youngests school but they do not currently have space.

Im so stressed.. schools are 25 minutes apart, i will be late for drop offs and pick ups every single day..in turn I will get fined.

Please tell me if there is any other solution I havent thought of..

Am awaiting appeal results but I read only 10% of appeals actually go in your favour

Homeschooling not an option, I need to work

breakfast club

WhatAMarvelousTune · 12/05/2026 20:36

I suppose the only solution if they are at different schools is some sort of childcare, putting your youngest in breakfast club or with a childminder and then driving the eldest to school.

TeenToTwenties · 12/05/2026 20:37

As above, breakfast club or childminder for youngest.

tinyspiny · 12/05/2026 20:37

Try and find another school which has places for all 3 in the right area .

Hobbitfeet32 · 12/05/2026 20:38

wraparound care or can one parent do one drop off and the other do the other

Roads · 12/05/2026 20:38

If you don't have anyone else to do the second school run such as a partner, relative or childminder then it will have to be a case of utilising breakfast club.

breakfast club

The first rule of breakfast club is you do not talk about breakfast club.

IndigoBabble · 12/05/2026 20:45

Have you appealed?

NameChangeAgain48 · 12/05/2026 20:51

I wouldn't worry about it yet. I think lots changes over the summer. Id appeal and if you dont get in on appeal go on the waiting list. Hopefully, you'll get offered a place things are changing all the time.

DandelionClockSeeds · 12/05/2026 21:06

Childcare?
Shifting work hours?
You say we moved. How many adults? If 2, divide and conquer - or both shift hours to allow it to work.

sittingonabeach · 12/05/2026 21:09

Why are people suggesting appealing?

It was always a risk when OP moved out of catchment

HobnobsChoice · 12/05/2026 21:11

Appeals for ks1 have a lower success rate because the panel are limited on the grounds they can uphold. They don't weigh prejudice

I'd keep children on waiting lists for each others schools. Presumably once your youngest goes on roll at allocated school the siblings will get a bump up the waiting list as siblings is often a higher oversubscription category There's is often a lot of movement over the summer and children leaving or not taking up Reception places.

Also look into breakfast clubs or childminders who might be able to accommodate drop off or pick up

SpringingOn · 12/05/2026 21:20

Does the new school have wrap around care? Are older ones old enough to travel alone? Is there another parent who could do drop-offs? Could you get an au-pair/other childcare for a few months/a year while you see if space comes up at either school?

sittingonabeach · 12/05/2026 21:35

@Sylveon1 what’s the basis of your appeal?

ScaryM0nster · 12/05/2026 21:37

Any neighbours who also have kids at the near school that you could do a drop off swap with for some days?

alliumursinum · 12/05/2026 21:38

IndigoBabble · 12/05/2026 20:45

Have you appealed?

Did you read the OP?

LIZS · 12/05/2026 21:39

Appeal for which child/ren? If youngest you need to demonstrate a mistake was made in the process which meant your dc missed outon a place, which seems unlikely. Does either school have wrap around care? Could you find a childminder for your youngest to do the drop offs?

RocketLollyPolly · 13/05/2026 19:06

What place on the waiting list is your younger child? And how many places per year?

What year groups are your older children? What waiting list place are they currently for the close school and what would they be once your younger child starts? Appeals are easier to win for Y3+
