Twickenham Prep or local primary school for children starting soon?

Hi there,

Have two children who will be starting school in the next year / 2 years.

I have been looking at the local options in Hampton and like the look of Twickenham Prep. My husband is more keen on just sending to regular primary school, he seems to think that there will be too much pressure in a prep school that will contribute to poor mental health. I am not from England, so haven't gone through the school system here. But I am in the opposite camp of smaller class sizes to nurture my child will be better..I am also not keen on a few of the schools in the area being divided as infant and junior. My daughter changed nursery after Christmas when we moved to the area and it was a difficult change for her, even though she is now settled. Also the logistics of working and having children at two different schools at a young age seems daunting to me.

Does anyone have children at Twickenham prep? Would you recommend? Or any other thoughts on state vs private?
Thanks

Private primary has been fantastic. Hampton prep is fantastic, but I have also heard excellent things about Twickenham Prep from friends who have children there. Newland House is another one to consider.

The prep and primary schools in the area are very good, there is also a falling birth rate which means you will have lots of choice (the private pre-preps are doing everything to get kids in the door). I would start in a state primary that then gives you the option to move to the private system if you want to pay. Don’t worry about Infant/Junior schools - a majority of the cohort will be moving from year 2 to year 3 together. Make sure you are familiar with the secondary state options you will have as there is a variation of options depending on your postcode. (Ie if your state secondary option isn’t great you might want to save on primary for secondary fees which unfortunately will be astronomical 7 or 8 years from now)
