After school club - to think this is expensive?

Our local after school club provider has just put up their fees. I know things are going up but wow!

New fees:

£14.50 per child (3.15-5 with light meal)
Or
£17.50 per child (3.15-6 with light meal)

For reference holiday camp 830-4 is £30 per child which I think is a bargain.

Ours is 3:30-4:30. £5
3:30-5:30 £9

run by the school, South east.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 30/04/2026 17:41

I suppose that’s good if it covers whole time

modgepodge · 30/04/2026 17:44

Ours is &10.50 til 4.30 or £15.50 til 6, run by school staff. It used to be run by a big nationwide provider and was over £17 til 6 (with no cheaper early collection option) 2 years ago. Sounds about right I’m afraid OP.

welshgirl1980 · 30/04/2026 18:23

Ours range from £7.50 to £12.50 depending on pick up time, first pick up is 4.30pm last is 5.45pm includes a snack and drink. Holiday club is £27 half day and £38 full day. This is north Wales.

Bobbybobbins · 30/04/2026 18:25

I pay £120 a day for a holiday club for my disabled child so sounds like a bargain to me!!

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 30/04/2026 18:28

I think that’s reasonable! We charge £4 an hour for our after school club with no meal and we are one of the cheapest in the area. For a nursery child to attend it would be £16.50 from 2.45 to 5.30 and a school age child it would be £8 from 3.30 to 5.30z. Nursery we need a higher adult staff ratio hence the cost.

MadeForThis · 30/04/2026 13:33

Ours is £19.25 from 3-6. Holidays are £40/day snacks only.

That’s crazy for after school club! Do they get an actual meal or a light snack such as a sausage roll?

Emmz1510 · 30/04/2026 18:38

Yes id say it’s a little high but not massively outwith what’s probably standard. Ours was £15 for 3-6 (based in school) including a snack.

somanythingssolittletime · 30/04/2026 18:44

Ours is £22 3.15-6 with a light snack

lemonyfox · 30/04/2026 18:45

Ours is £6 for before school with free breakfast, and after school is now £12 with a £1 supplement for a light snack. They’ve just put the prices up by 50p per session, this is in Lancashire.

MissRaspberryRipples · 30/04/2026 18:47

To me it seems a lot I pay £9.90 per session 3.15-5.50pm with a light snack

Jiski · 30/04/2026 18:51

It’s 50p more at my son’s school in Birmingham

Roads · 30/04/2026 18:56

I'm genuinely surprised that more than one poster pays less than £5 an hour. Most takeaway coffees these days are about £5, so an hour of childcare for less seems incredibly cheap.

Flamingoqueenofchaos · 30/04/2026 19:03

Ours is run by the school in the hall/ playground and £16 per session from 3.10 to 6pm (with a small meal). Capacity is 60 kids and it’s often full!

Marmite27 · 30/04/2026 19:07

Breakfast club is £2.50 for half an hour and comes with a snack.

After school clubs are for an hour only, and no snack. They’re £1.50. Some are 1p, like the training for the sports clubs. They can’t offer them totally free because the school money system won’t allow it.

Year 6 get free booster clubs in the lead up to SATs and they’ll all be getting free breakfast club next week.

We’re in West Yorkshire.

Cheersmedears123 · 30/04/2026 19:08

Bloody hell. Ours is £5 and they just apologised profusely for increasing it. Kids take their own snack though.

Bitzee · 30/04/2026 19:09

£20 per session here, doesn’t matter if they’re there for 15 mins or until last pick up at 6. They only get the snack if they stay beyond 5pm (although school does also give tea so they’re not being starved) which is a wrap with a choice of jam, ham or cheese.

These are ours

We pay £15 for 3:15 - 5:30. £1 more until 6:30. Snack meal included.

Yes, mine does asc twice a week and it's £30 per session 3:15- 5:30 holiday clubs only cover 3hrs and that is between £90 - £120 each session.

chichiwaaa · 30/04/2026 19:29

Ours is £15 and no snack / food

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 30/04/2026 19:38

Ours is £7 until 6. They get a 'snack' which is actually sometimes more like a meal.

It's done in house, staffed by a couple of TAs.

They also do sports clubs or art or whatever until 4pm which are £5 per half term (not per week). You can do a half price asc after that to take it to 6pm.

Leavin4 · 30/04/2026 19:58

Ours is £3 for the first hour (no food), £6 til 5pm or £7 til 6pm (snack included)

I do think ours is quite cheap though, we’re in a mixed income area in Devon. There are always plenty of spaces and you can book up until 2pm on the day. We only need it a few times a year but I think its a really good service and am very grateful.

Noodles1234 · 30/04/2026 19:59

Mine is £15 per child 3:30-6 (£1 fo every minute late after 6pm). Comes with light snack, def not a meal. You're lucky to get anything as they don’t do enough and youngest first which fine, but the Reception kids take way too much (bagels / toast), and when older yr6 kids get there and lucky if half a satsuma is left and these kids are starving. No discount if you collect early even if only there for ten minutes. I do get this policy, but it isn’t cheap.

Issue is staffing, no one wants to do it, hours and money are poor indeed. So it’s generally 6th formers and as like anything some are good and the most punctual, and some are on their phones all the time.

What with minimum wage going up and NI, all manner of costs are going up inc bagels! Everything is getting very expensive.

I work at an after school club ran by a large nursery chain. Our after school club is £17.50 until 6pm. Holiday club £35 for a full day (7.30-6) or £26.80 for 9-3
