Advice on family-friendly areas and primary schools in Belfast

I’m considering moving back to Northern Ireland after 24 years living abroad, and I’d really love some advice from people who know Belfast well.

I have an 8-year-old daughter, so I’m particularly interested in recommendations on good areas for families, primary schools, and activities for children.

Belfast has changed so much over the years that I honestly do not know where to begin, so any tips, suggestions, or personal experiences would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Hi, I made a similar move a few years ago after 20 years away. We were set on stranmillis area but just couldn’t find a house we liked and the traffic put me off. But it has great schools and is a great area for families. I also like stormont/ ballyhackamore area. Property prices are rising here and there’s huge demand.
schools are generally very good here and lots of family friendly activities. The grammar school system is excellent too. We have a far superior lifestyle here compared to what we had. My dh loves it too. Good luck!

Ormeau area is very well liked and best secondary/ Grammar school in NI right on doorstep - Aquinas.

Primary schools are great - will depend on spaces.

Budget would be a factor but lots to like.
