My child is a Year 3 pupil in Wales. We’ve received her test results for the Welsh Personalised Assessments in Reading(131/131), Spelling (131/131), Reasoning (131/131) and Procedural (131/131). How rare is this? What are my next steps?

Well, you have a bright little girl.

when is her birthday? Summer borns get age weighted marking depending on their month of birth. Regardless, great scores! Well done to her

Also have you got access to Hwb? You can see the tracking charts by subject on there which are updated twice per year after assessments. You can then track progress v cohort.

She is a June baby. So I’m sure that’ll have weighed it somewhat if that’s how it works. I’ve never heard of Hwb, I’ll have a look thank you.

School should give you a username and password for your child to access Hwb. The charts are continuously updated through primary and secondary school to show individualised progress by examined subject.

I’m not sure how the birth month weighting works, it’s supposed to standardise the marking across the year group but can give anomalies for higher achieving summer born children eg maximum or over maximum marks. The weighting is phased down throughout primary then out by mid secondary school. Ask for actual scores from the school which have been stripped of birth month weighting to see a more accurate picture.

In my experience with a similar child to your description they have always found school work relatively easy and both state primary and secondary have been good a providing greater depth work and ensuring the child is stretched - this obviously depends on the school. Academics aren’t everything and as long as your daughter is happy at school and well integrated and supported then these results should mean that she’s in for a smoother ride than some with school work which is a blessing 😍

I have a child like that but it wasn't a surprise when they got test scores like that at that age as we knew before school and the teachers had told us each year. I'd be checking she feels challenged at school and if you are concerned ask what extension work is available; it might not be much at state primary. I would give her some extra work at home that is actually challenging for her and if she doesn't already then give her something like a musical instrument to learn or acting lessons to challenge her in not purely academic ways/give her something that she is middle ability in to learn how to try and fail. I would think ahead to secondary school. We had a lot of choice including grammar school and scholarships and bursaries to private.

My son (yr 2) got 131 for the 2 Maths ones... He is August so I wonder if that's something to do with it? Do they get higher scores if they are younger?
