Just wondered if anyone still goes in every week to speak to the teacher or do you only go in if called up by school for problems that arise - think I might being a bit sensitve just wanted to check it out with mumsnetters

I have never taken it upon myself to go in and speak to the teachers. I have gone in if requested, but that is usually for DS2 (Yr 3), never been in for DS1 (Yr6).

Why would you want to go in?

Sometimes the odd note has come home that has been written in their planner ie. could we help xx with 7 x table or go through telling the time with him.

Every week???? I have been in once to speak to ds1's Y2 teacher, and maybe two quick comments to dd's YR teacher - like to warn her she was going to start wearing glasses, or to ask for the next set of reading books.

Once a week is a bit OTT don't you think? Just out of interest, what do you find to say?

I tend to think that if there are no problems, then no need to speak to the teacher.

In Y1 it was a bit different with ds1, as his teacher was a good friend of ours anyway, but I'm fully expecting to not see his teacher at all next year (they are upstairs and come out themselves).

My ds had problems in the past mainly year 2 and 3 (behaviour) but pretty much OK now - but often feel I need to go in and check but suppose I am just paranoid sure school would be quick enough to call me if there were any problems

I'm sure the school would contact you - why don't you make an appointment with your ds's teacher in September, talk through your concerns, and ask that they be sure to let you know of any problems.

They will ring or write to you to go in if there are any problems.

I would just sit back and relax a bit

Thanks its very difficult if your child has had problems in the past to let go of the feeling that something is going wrong - sure I upset him too constantly asking if everything is OK - really want to loosen up but find it so hard
