Dyslexia screening

This is the GL dyslexia screening for my Yr 6 DD (done at end of Yr 5). We haven’t had grave concerns at all but it’s been raised by others outside school and she does struggle with anxiety and worries particularly about English. She is in a very high achieving school and masks well though so we are having her screened for inattentive ADHD and having a full EP assessment.
However, for those that see these things and can interpret - what should we take from it? Average CAT score 126 but sporadic scores over the years. I have posted previously but we didn’t have these. Thankyou x

Can you find the money for a full private assessment? DD has a very strange presentation in that she’s super high for vocab and visual / reading but nearly off the chart the other way for word sounds and working memory. Her high scores are how she masks the rest.

But as she’s getting older the struggles she has are becoming more obvious and I’m so glad we had her tested fully in Yr6.

School’s assessment came back as low risk as she successfully masked through most of it.

For us, the clear marker was the difference between oral ability and written ability (which it seems from the above that your DD also has, although I'm a parent and not trained in this area). If the Educational Psychologist won't include dyslexia in their assessment then you would be best to get a separate one.

Thanks both, really appreciate your responses. We are organising a full assessment which will include dyslexia as well. It was raised as you say, that she has a great verbal ability but struggles to get it down on paper. She can't sound out new words or put words into syllables, which is at odds which all the other things she can do!

There are some discrepancies of more than two standard deviations between Word Sounds, or what may be otherwise termed as “phonological awareness” and some of the other subtexts. This score is in the Low Average range, whereas some of the others are Above Average to Well Above Average (+115 SS). She scores as very visual (which may be going some way towards supporting her spelling) and may also have excellent spatial awareness. She has an excellent vocabulary and looks to be very intelligent. The relatively low Word Sounds score may be impacting on difficulties with decoding unfamiliar words when reading and possible word building when spelling.

However, it is ‘just’ a screening test and to confirm SpLD Dhyslexia you would need to get a full diagnostic assessment, which would take into account memory and attention/concentration, along with specific recommendations for further assessment as well as support.

This is super, thanks so much for taking the time. She does indeed struggle with sounding out words despite being 11 and apparently having a reading age of 17.
appreciate

Do you find she struggles to follow instruction at home? DD finds long lists of verbal instructions REALLY hard to follow which is all linked to low phonological awareness and low working memory.

I now accompany everything with hand gestures and a list!!!
