Alleyn’s Dulwich 4+ - chance of movement in waitlist after deposits paid

Hi all,
Hoping for some recent experiences with Alleyn’s Junior 4+ waitlists.

DD has been assessed this year and we’ve been told she was placed on the waiting list rather than given an offer. We don’t know her exact position on the list, but Alleyn’s would be the first choice if a place came up.

Because the offer deadlines for our other schools were today, we have already accepted a place at JAGS. I know JAGS is a very good school and we feel lucky to have the offer, but the single‑sex aspect does niggle at me a bit, which is why I’m still trying to understand how realistic it is to hold out any hope for Alleyn’s.

For anyone with recent experience (last 3–5 years):
• Did you see any movement after the initial Alleyn’s offer deadline, once deposits had been paid – or was all the movement (if any) before that point?

I’m also curious about how Alleyn’s handles offers vs places in practice. I wonder if they may make 1 or 2 offers more than there are Reception places and only go to the waiting list if they mis‑judge and have more declines than expected. I did hear of some declines this year but the registrar claims they didn’t go into the waitlist.

More broadly, how are people feeling about Alleyn’s as it expands? With Oakfield, Regent’s Park and the wider Alleyn’s group, it feels like the school is becoming a bit of a conglomerate and stretching itself – do current parents feel that has affected the core Junior/Senior School at all on the main Dulwich site, or does it still feel essentially the same?

Thank you.

No experience of those ages. All I can say is that friends whose kids went to Alleyns were very happy, those with girls at JAGS less so. All the families I know sent their kids to state primaries before JAGS/Alleyns at 11.

My friends in the same position have said that they were told Alleyns have slightly over offered this year and so have not gone into the WL. Even if they go into WL, unofficially a sibling will take priority over someone with no ties to the school.

I know this is not what you want to hear. But JAGS is great there's no wrong choice here. Best of luck.
